Transtech survivors

Recommended Posts

I was just thinking about the similarity between the name of the dinosaur megalosaurus and Megalo Convoy, and it hit me that he resembled a vehicular version of what I incorrectly thought at the time was megalosaurus. I thought megalosaurus was a bit like diplodocus but I was wrong. But it still stands that Megalo Convoy (Metroplex, to anyone who can get hold of Hasbro's version) reminds me very strongly of a dinosaur translated into vehicle form.

Which of course got me thinking about transtech.

We all know Energon Scorponok and his repaints have a very Transtech look to them. Some know that Megatron from Armada was partly inspired by a Transtech Scorponok design. But I bet there are others out there. So I challenge the TFans community to hunt down Transformers that are Transtech survivors and post them here! My first being the Megalo Convoy observation. :thumb

I'm pretty sure Armada Scavenger was (loosely) based on an abandoned Transtech design.

Actually, Transtech Megatron was adapted for Armada Megatron

Sharkticon is reminiscant of Transtech Depthcharge

Energon Landmine also uses elements of the Scavenger Transtech design

Ransack and Brakedown have elements derived from Transtech

My understanding was that Armada Megatron was mashed together from Transtech Scorponok and Megatron. The leg articulation was then surgically extracted to make the toy less fun, as fun has been medically proven to be bad for you.

TF Movie = Transtech

I have never heard of any rumors or images supporting that a "Transtech Scorponok" was ever concieved. The only artwork shown has been for:

Megatron

Shockwave

Immorticon

Starscream

Nightscream

Blackarachnia

cheetor

Silverbolt

Optimus Prime

Scavenger

and maybe Soundwave

If you look at Tech Megs, you can easily see the influence on Armada Megs

Okay, obviously got confused by something - there's a G1 Micromaster base thingy (I think) that also bears a striking resemblance to A Megs alt mode.

I guess what I'm after isn't so much 'evidence' of Transtech designs being used, but the beast-as-vehicle aesthetic. I doubt Metroplex, my first example, has been shown as a Transtech design, but it does seem to follow the beast-as-vehicle concept. And with the BW pre-beast con exclusives coming up, I'm sure there must be many more lying around.

Well, I'm not sure if this is what you were looking for, but the Autobot Brothers from RID were VERY Beast Wars-esque in terms of design. They were essentially just BW-style figures, made into cars instead of animals or other abstract things.

Heres a better pic of Megalosaurus :thumb
