Peter Cullen Cast as Optimus Prime?

You know, the one voice I want to hear done right more than anything is Soundwave. He's got a voice that can really only be done one way to truly be Soundwave, it's just too unique to be done by anyone else.

Kaye can be Megatron and Welker can be Soundwave. Make is so! :mwahaha

talk in a Dr. Claw voice and send it through a Vocoder = instant Soundwave

I like Kaye better. His Megs was over dramatic but he did sound scary some times. He was also very Condescending and totally uncaring.

keep in mind that what we're talking about is character voices, not the actors' voices themselves. Kaye and Welker played the kind of characters that the roles called for. "Kaye is wrong for G1 Megatron" based on his work in BW is kind of like saying that Frank Welker is wrong for G1 Megatron because he used to voice Freddy in Scooby-Doo.

rewatch A/E/C again, Kaye uses the BW voice for every Megatron he voices.

watch it again, he variates the voice a fair bit.

Armada he sounds more brutish, angry.

Energon he sounds far more like BW Megatron, but with an air of stupidity and insanity that BW megatron never had.

From what i've watched of Cybertron, he added a detached, somewhat angry tone to the voice.

Cybertron Emo Megs?

Cybertron Emo Megs?

No, more like sociopathic and yet kind of frustrated for some reason(even though he like totally PWNS cybertron in the first episode) Megs.

The variance only shows his talent in the field of voice-acting. Plus, if the scripts suck, you can only do so much with it. BW Megatron's lines were deep, and had great potential to show what kind of character BW Megs is, and Kaye fully used that potential. THe other Megs, not so much potential, but Kaye still did a terrific job with it.

Of course who they choose will depend on what type of character they're going for (IMO anyway). If they're making a Megatron that is a maniacal and power-hungry warlord then Welker would be my choice. However, if they're going for a Megatron that is very calculating and prone to Shakespearean monologues then Kaye pretty much has that nailed. Now, that's not to say neither actor is capable of doing a different Megatron, but that's the voice that I feel each actor has mastered.

Well...

Roberto Orci said here that they've written the movie Megatron with Welker in mind. That would seem to suggest that they've written the lines in a way appropriate for G1 Megatron's persona. Shakespearean monologues in Welker's voice? Ehhh.... less likely.

From what i've watched of Cybertron, he added a detached, somewhat angry tone to the voice.

I'd say more cunning or deceitful, or, dare I say, deceptive? He spent quite a bit of time in this series trying to convince people that he was the good guy and the Autobots were the bad guys. Kinda reminds me of that G1 episode where Megatron is all friendly: "Hello there, my name's Megatron, what's yours?" That line still cracks me up.

Oh, and someone today tried to tell me that Cullen is the worst thing that has happened to this movie and they would have rather seen Neil Kaplan get the role than him.  :tflaugh

It depends on their perspective. If they meant "who best represents Optimus Prime" then clearly Cullen wins that one. But if they meant "what's best for this movie, considering its lack of connection to G1", then I dunno.... I wouldn't choose Kaplan anyway though
