If these eps are on dvd reproducing it would be illegal.

just my 2 cents on the matter.

me i dont see nothing wronge if the guy decides to share copies of the complete series so long as

1 whatever company it is that supossedly owns the right to this particuler series does not have it's own copyrighted series of it out on the market and

2 no money changes hands between him and the person recieving them.

guy a sends guy b a set of disks or tapes to copy them to guy b who then sends them back.

there is such a thing as a simple trade people despite how much certain individuals would like to believe it does not exist.

so long as no money is involved at all i figure the guy is just doing a fellow fan a slight favor.

*snip*

it's called having connections people and yeah sometimes a persons moral values can be a bit misplaced or next to nonexistant for that matter but so long as no money is involved whatsoever in this case  i really don't see how the person holding the copywright to the series  is getting hurt in the long or short term nor do i see  how he has has anything to Starscream about so long as that person refuses to sell it on the market dvd release wise.

so the guy is willing to do a few fellow fans a favor

i guess at best one could think of a fair trade as being some sort of mutual charity in a way.

What if we are buying the box, artwork, and 'extras' that he made himself, and not the videos themselves?

Technically, we are paying for his work and not the copied movies.  :thumb

great point ..MASS PRODUCE MASS PRODUCE

Hey guys, thanks again for all of the feedback!  I really appreciate everyone's comments!

I really wished I had the resources to mass produce my work (and even to make a high quality DVD set), but such is not the reality.  I had the box printed at a printer and it cost me $22.  The clear cases were $5 (on clearance at that).  The other papers (the transparencies, etc). are addtional, not to mention the ink for the inserts.  The VHS tapes were approx. $3 . . . you can see how this adds up.  Also the comments about compensation for my artwork (which was a HUGE amount of work) is also legimate, but more subjectively measured.  In the end, I think I'm the only one who could really afford this set, and that's because it's made by my hands!

As a Christian minister, copyright issues and ethics are certainly in my world of things I am forced to handle.  Also as an artist, I have a unique perspective in that I view things from many different angles.  If you notice, on the box itself, I have included the necessary copyright information, thus crediting the proper sources.  However, legally, even though I did this doesn't alleviate me from the licensing fees that Hasbro and Disney (who owns Sabian now) are entitled to.

Also, technically, I couldn't legally just reproduce the episodes to send to someone, but here's where things [to me] start to get more gray.  Long story short, I personally don't have a problem with sharing things like this without making a profit (just the tapes, not my artwork).  If someone really wanted to complain, I'd simply say, "well, shut up and go ahead and make an official set (for more on this argument, one only needs to look to Lars Ulrich of Metallica vs. Napster)."  Even with the "sharing" (bootlegging, if you prefer), there would still be the issues of materials such as the blank tapes, the shipping coverage, and the other resources (the gold-laced gas that we have to use to fuel our vehicles to the post).

Anyways, I'm glad you guys like my work as much as you do.  I am really in love with package design, and had I not answered my call to ministry, I'd probably be in the field professionally, but who knows?

Again, enjoy!
