i thing the problem is that you're assuming that the tf's will have human-like personalities. AFAIK, some people are expecting the movie tf's to act more like alien machines. they'll have personalities, just not human personalities.

ok so if you are dead set against the idea of the TFs having any personality at all - then dont ghey up this thread with your angst just becasue we think that they MIGHT have personality.

1X Noble Leader

1X Villianous Leader

 

But what else - if these ALIEN MACHINES as Hornet is so intent on screaming - are exactly that -what does that mean?

 

Is Movie Prime going to act more like what we remember G1 Soundwave as being?

 

Are the Decepticons only going to talk in Modem screeches? Is that more realistic? is that More interesting to watch?

 

Is Bumblebee going to be an accessible character for Shia and the audience to bond with? or is he only going to be a fancy radio DJ?

The Transformers humanlike personalities separated them from all the Japanese piloted robots of the same period in the cartoons. And lets face it, watching a load of Alien robots acting all mysterious and alien might make it hard for most people watching the film to even care.

They need humanlike personalities else the only things in the film we'll be able to relate to are... the humans, who suddenly take up more screen time and to be honest thats not what i'll be paying money to see :)

If they don't have humanistic personalities...then I will be sorely disappointed, since the TF's personalities have always been something that has ranked high on my personal wants for the movie. But I can shut that part of myself down and think more along the lines of pure machines.

 

Ok then here we go:

 

Decepticons --

Pure, killing machines, designed for one purpose...eriadication and conquest. No major thoughts needed, just a few will need actual personalities.

 

Megatron --

Hater of organics and lover of conquest. Programmed to lead mindless killing machines to universal conquest over and over again. Has minor personal goals and belief system, but follows a directive of destruction, death, and conquest.

 

Starscream --

Personality glitch, Decepticon given personality by accident. Growing personality forces him to see Decepticons as something more than mindless killing machines. Has a minor belief system that goes against Megatron's own beliefs. Slowly begins to plot against Megatron.

 

Soundwave --

Programmed to simply follow Megatron without question. No true personality, just there to assist Megatron as needed. Will protect Megatron if need be and has set perimeters for what he'll do.

Now for the Autobots:

 

Optimus Prime --

Built as a counter-balance to Megatron. Has limited personality that makes him have minor compassion to weaker beings. Overall though he is simply there to stop the Decepticons' conquest, even if this leads to large-scaled collateral damage of organics.

 

Ironhide --

Built for war. Gunner. Pure and simple "good guy's war machine".

 

Jazz --

High-Speed warrior. Used for strategic operations due to powerful logical center. Has an undetermined response to musical tones and pitches, causing an unforseen "interest" in music.

 

Bumblebee --

Built for espionage, has the largest personality matrix. Makes him one that wants to understand human culture, thus allowing him to befriend main human character.

 

Ratchet --

Search and Repair Drone. Used to keep the Autobots up-to-date on maintenance and supplies while on alien worlds.

I was just being an ass...but I can't believe adults actually have these conversations.

 

I can KIND OF ALMOST SORT OF understand people discussing what the movie may consist of...but when it comes to discussing what they hope each character will act like and breaking down what personality traits you would like to see in this sci-fi movie...well, it scares me a little.

i dont see how reducing the TFs to mindless machines actually adds anything to the story... but if thats what Hornet wants... by all means thats what must happen and any of us that think otherwise are just ghey fanboys...

i guess it all depends on if he'll be a mute or not but i can see something like The Iron Giant where the kid teaches the robot how to become more friendly.
