Actually, when the cassettes wer first released in 1984 here in NorAm, they were known as Decepticon Cassettes. "Cassetticons" is a fan given name for those guys.

Never thought about it, myself... Then again, I had no idea what the hell a minibot was until 2004.

And Laserbeak managed to blow up a clone prime and in the same episode, enlarge in size to grab Starscream (in robot mode) and bring/carry him back to Megatron.

 

In another lame episode, Megatron was hiding in a guitar case (i believe) and Laserbeak had to shoot the lock of so the Megs could transform.

i consider them minibots like bumblebee, cliffjumper, etc etc.

yes, and for Blaster as well, but the minibots exist since the very begining..

no they were minions of their guardian (soundwave/blaster)
