Question for TFans with kids

Recommended Posts

He is brickalicious in the best sense of the word!

big Optimus Primes with lots of features = hours of fun for my kids

and for the record this did not apply to Energon Megazord Prime... which is surprising, given how much my boys are into Power Rangers. Powermaster Prime and Cybertron Prime are the fan favorites in the Madhammer household.

well my 7 yr old daughter has a G1 prowl i bought for here and one of the tin can minicons, my 1yr old son on the other hand has a MP prime a galaxy force wing saber, and some minicons, that i bought him.  i let him touch some of my formers every once and a while until he gets old enough to transform them his self, then by then i will have bought him enought to let him play with his own.

You gave a 1yr old Choke hazardous toys? I stopped myself from buying my boys any 3 3/4 Joe figs cause I didn't wanna risk my daughter, who was 1 at the time, chewing on their tiny weapons. That cancerns me but of course it's not my kid. So now Im going to the next thread and deleting this from memory as usual.

I don't have any kids myself yet, but whenever anyone sees my collection, whether it be a kid or an adult, I usually welcome them to pick one up and fiddle with it a bit if they want to. I mean, to me, these things are toys, and shine with their true purpose the most when being played with.

The kids usually pick a nice big one (ie, Cybertron Prime), but most of the time, both kids and adults are reluctant to pick anything up, simple because of the intricate way I have everything stacked up due to the lack of space (I have TFs standing on top of TFs, and smaller TFs slipped in-between cracks)

only person im worried about breaking em is my mom...she picks one up and pop something falls off......but she insists on touchng em and even trying to transform em

everything is still in the boxes, until hes old enough to play with them without putting them in his mouth :thumb

my son has been into transformers since he was 6 months old. i used to put him in front of the tv and let him watch beast wars. he grew loving it. as a toddler i would get him his own. he is not a hard core fan like me. but he has the playskool transformers and now that he is 7. he has the bigger ones. go with the playskool transformers those are great. i even got my wife's nephew's into it

I have a 4 and a 6 yr old...both boys, and they both love TFs...in fact, I started collecting again because of them. Relatives from time to time would get one of my kids a TF, Armada and Energon stuff...I didnt much care forthose lines personally, but my kids loved em...and of course when they were smaller they got the Playskool Go Bots TFs, and it started with that.

Both my boys know what toys they can touch and have...anything on display in the living room on my shelves they know is off-limits. It's the same with my ancient/medieval weapons and armour I have around the house...people are shocked I have swords and axes and the like within easy reach. My philosophy on both TFs and my other "toys" is this: If you keep everything locked away and/or otherwise out of reach, these items will be taboo to your children, and thus there will be more of a desire to mess with them....if they are right out on display, where they can see them every day, they wont think twice about them.

I also make the acquisition of a new figure a family afair...usually my boys are with me when i go hunting, and when we come home with a haul, we sit together as I open them all. I transform them, activate all their gimmicks and show them off to the boys...they love it. I read them the figures Bios and attributes, we also watch the shows together.  My 4 yr old developed a very strong attraction to Armada Smokescreen...he carried the figure around with him like other kids would latch onto a teddy bear or blanket.

I keep my more fragile and pricey G1 collection higher up, but my Cybertrons are all at their level. Alts I keep up high as well, simply because theyre more intricate and more likely to break.

I'll probably start looking for more Armada/Energon/Universe figs for them both at yard/garage sales.

LOL! I'm happy to hear that. My 2 yr old just stopped chewing every thing. If I could have found 20th Prime on discount like all the other luckies out there, I would have got him for my kids and saved them till they got older....*or I would have cashed in on some of that over $100 on eBay action :mwahaha sorry kids  :redface

A good question to ask yourself is "do I buy toys for my kids as often and as freely as I do for myself?" JMO

Fair enough, and good point.  My son goes to the toy store (or toy section) on average about twice a week, and he always comes out with something (if he behaves) - often a matchbox car or action figure.  On top of that, when I look for things on my own, I always get something for him.  Then there's the grandparents.  Plus he gets all of my hand me down energon and cybertron.  He doesn't want for anything.

Anyway, thanks for all of the replies gents.  Sorry I didn't participate, but I was on vacation.

Lots of good advice.  The point made that they are toys made for kids is a good one, from the standpoint that they are not china dolls.  I think going forward, if he wants to play with Cybertron Metroplex, etc., he can play with it, with supervision.  The older/import stuff will stay on the high shelves.  Things like Predaking are not age appropriate for him.  And if he really wants something of mine that I want for myself, maybe I'll buy it for him.
