Umm no. The comic actually shows huw much prime uses the supermode in the smallest and weakest situations in other words... the comic shows that Prime's SM IS being quite overused.

Despite being a big Optimus fan, I have to side with Satanstorm on this one.  There were definitely times during GF that he was being a bully...

 

When he supermode'd Ransack and CZ when they were practically on their knees, that was being a bully.

I never watched the GF version - was there a reason why Optimus Prime always resorts to his super mode?

LOL, classic.

Goki is correct with G1's comic powermaster mode though, Prime didnt have to merge with his trailer all the time but he did, giving him more firepower and strength than pretty much anyone.

I'd still like to see the powermaster Prime in the live-action movie, it makes sense for him to make use of his trailer as an armour upgrade.

Funny but true.  In the few episodes of Energon I finally got to see, thanks to a lot of DVD hunting, Prime used his supermode even before he started fighting.  What kind of message does that give to kids?  That you need a supermode all the time for even nothing?  G1 Prime never had a super mode and that made him more interesting because he used his own strength, that's more of a character for kids to look up to than a Prime who has to be in super mode at the slightest sneeze-

 

Megatron - "Achoo!"

 

New Primes:  "Super mode!"

 

Megs:  "Oh come on already!"

 

It's almost like it's saying that good guys are weak till they take steroids and pump their strength to the max, or something like that.  Not a very good message to kids.

But Megatron only gets an upgrade when he sees Optimus Crime supersize himself everytime he crosses the street.

 

And I wouldn't call a repaint "Megatron's upgrade," but more of a commercial gimmick.

That's different, that was more of a reformat and permanent, he couldn't just switch back at will.

 

I wish they would do a Megatron that had upgrades. Armada Tidalwave is the closest we've gotten. Remember those rumors from Energon that Optimus and Megatron could merge? That would have been interesting...

Optimus Prime is old so he probably can't fight as good anymore like in G1 without all of the fancy tech, that could be one of the reasons why is always uses a supermode.

Ah, but the difference there was the "supermode" was not a "supermode" - it was a permanent upgrade.

No he had the ability to get out of it.  Its just that all the eneimes now were much stronger than him, and in this form he had a unlimited power source.
