could "Classics" be acting as a buffer for

Recommended Posts

I think this is being looked at from the wrong direction.

the Classics line is not Filler - the Filler line is classic.

Meaning - they have to have some simple mini line to bridge the gap between Cybertron and the movie - by using a Classics line they bring in whatever is left of the Cybertron Fans, AND the die hard OLDER collectors - with out having to produce any official media to support it.

Much like the Alternators started out as a Classics line.  They did that cuase the Nostalgia of CLASSICS is part of the sales pitch.

jeeeeeebus I said that at the beginning of the thread

I agree. This is exactly what What I was thinking from the beginning.

The STFU Classics will probably the last time anyone ever will get a G1 rehashed toy line. Not that I'm complaining. Hasbro is banking big time on this movie and if it does anywhere near as well as they're hoping chances are the movie incarnated TFs will very well be the the new look of TFs as we know it.

Unless everything goes horribly wrong and the movie/line bomb worse than BM Hasbro will probably waste no time taking the line back to basics unless they decide to scrap the franchise altogether. Personally I'm hoping niether happens and Bay/Spielberg makes good with his reinventing of the serries.

Maybe you guys are dumb and Classics and Titanium are just FILLER before we get movie toys. Trying to start a full-fledged storyline (A/E/C) toy sequence would be too long and run over into the movie stuff.

I just figured it was obvious or something like that

Quoting to soothe Kopi's Gheybo angst.

I think the reasons are simpler than that:

- They need a line as filler to continue interest in Transformers for both kids and collectors

- It might as well be G1 homages to revive collectors' interests. Kids wouldn't care if it is G1 as long as they're cool-looking. G1 homages uses the concept 'If it's not broke, don't fix it'.

- Making them homages of G1 results in developing designs much easier since they don't have to make up entirely new characters.

Besides, if the movie turns away die-hard G1 purists, would it be such a big loss.. They're a niche of a niche, and these purists haven't bought any toys that aren't G1 so there's zero impact on sales.

But really, you made finer points and stuff that are good observations

from the looks of that life-size model of Bumblebee, it seems that the kibble folds up to give the robot mode a more humanoid shape. after thinking about it, i realized that it could be possible to capture the movie designs in toy form but they would have to be shellformers.

yes you are.

No. He's not. I think it's quite possible.  They've stopped just short of explicity telling us that the character designs are not very 'Geewun'

That doesen't mean they will be 'bad' just not what some may be hoping for.

am i the only one who believes that the Classics toyline could be acting as a nostalgia fix for the collectors to make up for the possibility that the new movie might be as different from G1 as BM was from BW? it makes sense when you think about it: give the collectors all the homages they want in the Classics toyline so they'll get sick of the nostalgia and be ready for something new when the new movie comes around. even Titaniums are helping to a certain degree.

That's exactly what I'm hoping for. Beast Machines was innovative, the last thing we need is two G1 homage lines. What I really want is for the robot modes to appear more alien-like. For a hominid. Oxymoron'd

I think that this theory of a STFU line has merit, but I am really hoping that they keep enough of the G1 feel for the movie to make everyone happy, while reinventing it enough to make it appeal to everyone, not just GeeWuners and transfans.

No, you're not.

Actually, I'm kind of hoping it will be a bit like this. I really hope that they will take a new direction with both the movie and what comes after. No more G1 rehashing.

indeed, you rawhide, know i feel this way about it.
