I would definitely agree that during a certain age it would definitely be "uncool" to admit to collecting TF's. But when you get older (30's) people don't seem to care as much, because most of them have oddball collections themselves.

 

I have a BT Smokescreen on my desk, and I get packages all the time from bbts at the office - and the other co-workers always want to see what I bought.  :tftongue 

 

In college, however - that was a different story. :beer

I don't think it's about being "uncool", I think it's more about having the self-confidence to be proud of your hobby. I reached an age (when I was 18 BTW) when I stopped following & started leading, I eventually found myself getting into TF's again.

I never hide the fact that I collect TF's. To be honest though, I don't look & act like the stereotypical geeky fan IRL. I stand out like a sore thumb at conventions!

As would I if I ever bothered to go to one.  I would be the one with his head down, sometimes looking at some of the TF's while trying not to talk to anyone.  I wouldn't be embarressed or anything like that, I would be more terrified because of all the people.  TF's are just a mild hobby, nothing more.

Seriously. At being 29, I don't care about who sees me carrying TFs to the checkout line. I have Hybrid Convoy on my desk with Alt Prime who's upsetting me at the moment with his right fender issue. Possible Defect? I'll save it for another thread. KT Frenzy is red and WST Thrust. I'm very open about it.

 

Also have the xB with TWNCAST for plates and Autobot stickers on the windows and BT* Broad Blast on the dash at all times. People know and I get asked at stop lights what my plates mean. No way an undercover fan.

 

I've even met girls that remember TFs because of their brothers or had some too. Often times, people actually forget because they get too involved with growing up or whatever and when they see the symbol, they remember and that feels good that they relive their childhood seeing you drive by or looking at your collection. But never be ashamed or hide buying them. To those of you here that are open about it, stay open. To those that hide it, join us.
