Is it just me or did harbro try TF Universe before but, they named it TF Gen 2. I drew the concussion from some similarities between the two of them.

 

1) repaints of older TF {exp. Gen 2 Yellow Devastator and Universe Depthcharge }

 

2) reissuseing Takara and other TF as new Hasbro TF {exp. Gen 2 Staxx and Universe Nemesis Prime}

I think, in a way, you're right. Only this time they have a better story to promote the line, not just using the G1 cartoons over again.

 

But if you mean, "let's squeeze as much money as we can from old molds, partnerships with Takara, and old names." Yeah, I'd say it was the exact same thing.

Yeah, if Universe suddenly becomes relegated to exclusive only, then that would be something to fear :P.

Is Universe only Gen 2 with a new name?

 

Not really. Not all the Universe color schemes are terrible and none of them can even hope to be as awful as some of the bright, garish colors used in G2.

LOVe the repaints of Razorclaw and blackarachnia.....and now i have Ratchet back in my collection thx to universe......

 

cant wait to get Nemesis Prime(big convoy repaint) and Soundwave

i really wanted the originals now i can have my cake and eat it too :lol

 

yeah repaints suck....but sometimes its worth it :thumbs

i'm likin U, i have got some of the molds i missed out on, like BW optimus primal, and armada skywarp!!

i really want universe to come here so i can get some old molds i used to have i'd like to have a newer version of soundwave since i've got stalker now and nemises prime and ramjet and sunstorm

I think Universe is better timed then G2, some of these molds, especially the Machine wars molds are out of reach for new collectors. I know I am thankful for it, I am now able to get the Machine Wars Starscream, even though it was repainted into Howard the Duck, and I will be able to pick up Machine Wars Soundwave very soon. So I think the Universe line is just right for the times.

I think the Drench repaint of Wheeljack should answer this question nicely.
