I found this auction today for a G2 Hero Optimus Prime prototype.  Has anyone heard of or seen this kind of a prototype?

I don't think its legit.

Looks Alot Like A KO :wtf

Obviously a KO or else it would be ni original packaging

very strage piece i say.

hmmmmm

i know of a blueish prototype but this is something different.

i will do more of a background search but it may be a K.o

toy companies do make mock ups of any old card just to test out the packing, this is more prevailant in other toy lines like SW and so on but these kind of package samples are not unknown

I too have seen mock-up packaged protos before. But usually, the mock-up cards are left-over stock from other toylines that the manufacturer had previously released. This toy packaging could be validated if a match to another HasKen release could be found.

Things that stick out for me:

1. Mold differences between the 2 items.

2. Constuction differences on the missiles

3. The mock-up card appears to have 2 different series on it, back is different from the front... also says "pimp" on the front.

4. Plastic color changes.

I also have never seen an uncolored (actually half-colored) prototype in mock-up packaging before.

I've definately seen a Hero Prime packaging mock up like that before.

May have been the same seller - can't recall.

ive seen things like this befor so it could be lagit but ofcorse it would be easy to make a fake

It's real.  It's a (mostly) unpainted testshot in mockup packaging.
