Constants

Recommended Posts

There are several constants in the series after G1 that happen over and over. This is a bad thing in my opinion. I hope that the writers of future series will be more creative like the BW and BM writers.

I have not seen Energon yet, so my opinion on that series is based on the toys only.

-Optimus Prime combines with his trailer to form a very powerful robot. (RID, Armada, Energon)

-Prime can combine with other Autobots( RID(Magnus), Armada (Jetfire, Overload), Energon (Omega Supreme, Wing Saber).

-Megatron gets upgraded into Galvatron (Japanese BW (II/neo), RID, Armada, Energon(?) )

-The Decepticons are incompetent (RID, Armada, Energon)

-The Autobots are 'helped' by annoying humans (RID, Armada)

-The Autobots never press their advantage if the Decepticons/Predacons flee (RID, Armada).

I am pretty sure that I have missed a few.

The purpose behind this is to intigrate new audiences. The themes are the same because they work. Now do I wish that we were still in a G-1 continuity and that like other icons (ie; spiderman, gI joe) the story kept progressing? Yes I do, but I think that it would eventually get stale. TFs have to reinvent themselves every so often to get both new fans and keep the old ones excited.

I could be wrong though.

-Megatron gets upgraded into Galvatron (Japanese BW (II/neo), RID, Armada, Energon(?) )

BWII Galvatron was a different character from BW Megatron.

Also, calling Megatron's "powered-up" recolor Galvatron is purely a Hasbro thing, (although it can be blamed on Takara giving Gigatron a power-up recolor at all) and in Japan, the Energon one is known as Galvatron from the start.

-The Decepticons are incompetent (RID, Armada, Energon)

The Decepticons in Energon are quite competent.

I'm getting sick of the Megatron to Galvatron pattern. They are kind of killing it. And if they do it in Energon, that means it went from Megatron-Galvatron-Megatron-Galvatron. That will be too repetitive

yeah, it is annoying that just cuz Megs gets a new paint job that he's suddenly called Galvatron. How it makes sense for him to be called Galvatron in Superlink, cuz he actually looks like him. I just don't get why Energon calls him Megatron.

They'll do it... There's already a "Galvatron" Toy listed for Energon.

I like the way Takara handled it.. Megatron--> Super Megatron (Armada Galvatron)--> Galvatron (E. Megs) ---> to probably Super Galvatron (inevitable Energon Megs repaint)

more on topic though... As a storywriter and fanboy... I to wish they'd try something new with each series (One of the reasons BW is so cool is it's so revolutionary... but it was a nature of the times-- TFs weren't "big" back when it came out), I do understand that in order to keep a constant fanbase and appeal to little kids... somethings need to be kept the same from series to series. Remember how the drastic change from G1 season 2 and the TF:TM/Season 3 resulted in the essental collapse of the license. They learned from that lesson and won't repeat it.

Copyrights. They have to use the name, or else they'll lose it to some other stupid company. And there's no point in naming the toy Megatron, and then calling the character something else in the show, it gets confusing. Storywise, it doesn't make sense, but that's the way things are with dumbass American copyright laws.

that and geeks are impossible to please. Like when Spider-Man's webbing was part of his mutation in the movie, or when Kingpin was black in the Daredevil movie. I heard so much whining over these very minor changes. The truth of the matter is, geeks say they want something new, but when they do it turns out that they liked the original better. Sure, there are these constants in TFs, but other than Megs being called Galvy after a repaint, I really don't care. And the whole Megs to Galvy thing doesn't even bother me that much. But I do like how Optimus has a supermode or can combine with others.

:tflaugh Very true.. I actually liked Spidy's change myself... i thought it was a bit senseless in the original idea. :nuts

But you're right... no matter what they do with the series, people'll Starscream. Can't please everyone. I'm just happy they're popular again and I can get cool toys. :D

The worst one is the bumbling Decepti-tards they have these days. Its all RiD's fault with skybyte and his dreams and megatron being a crazy idiot. The Decepticons were built for war, they are good at it. Autobots aren't but hey, good always wins :redface
