Nice- I never knew how much it does resemble that member of Liokaiser. My knowledge of G1 Transformers is mostly centered in Diaclone, microchange, and the pre-movie USA and Japan. It all comes down to the Diaclone mold cars, are my favorite. I'm really rather sketchy on later US and Japanese stuff.

Nah- his name makes perfect sense for who/what he is. Here's the rundown on the "genesis" of Charger's name:

 

 

So in 2002 I got the contest prize G1 Black Tracks- he's a completely blank slate, no characterization, not tech spec, nothing; (unless you wanted to just consider him Tracks, in a black paint job.) So I had to come up with a name and a character so I got to thinking.... The alternate mode is a Corvette Stingray... which led me to Depthcharge.... then I said "nah Depthcharge is taken", so I thought "Charge? Charger? Yeah. Charger." I chose Charger as a nod to Depthcharge in alternate mode because they are both Stingrays and in function, because the character was, for me, a Police officer like Depthcharge. Think sort of like a CIA/FBI/Special mission type, who has been sent, along with two other members of his team (Stepper and Pitchwing) with 2 mission objectives: To retrieve the Matrix from Optimus Prime, whom the powers that be on Cybertron feel is no longer fit to be the Autobot Commander and have the Matrix (after 4 million years the social/political climate has changed on Cybertron and now the new Cybertronian leaders find that the Matrix still exists? Well they want it back.) And to bring back Megatron, alive so that he can be held for trial for War Crimes, or Dead if need be.

 

 

So fast forward to April 2004 and I'm doing an kitbash of an Alternators Tracks into black and the name sticks. Admittedly he's not a Stingray anymore, but thats still alot better then Binaltech "Lambor" being a Dodge Viper. =P

 

 

 

And for those further interested, the team of police officers were Charger (function:Intelligence, figure: black tracks), Stepper (function:Sniper, figure:Stepper), and Pitchwing (function:Team Commander, figure:Ehobby back Starscream)

I'm happy about Stepper being reissued, because now I can finally complete the physical representation of the team.

I'm just happy for any Alternators- they are all great. If they do a nice Alternator style jet though, we'll see what happens. ;)

I wouldn't mind a black Decepticon Tracks Alternator, then I could retire my repaint for a true black mold. that would be cool.

 

 

I mean I like repaints and kitbashes, but I like the real thing even better.

I hope Hasbro/Takara take it one step further, by doing a remold of the C5 to the C5R that would be cool….but since we already getting a black con I don’t think we will be seeing another one any time soon.
