a point for all those Daniel and Hot Rod haters

Recommended Posts

Good point....I never disliked hot rod all That much....daniel...yes i still can not stand, however very good point....you also have to remember that without hot rod...Optimus may not have gotten the crud blasted out of him...he could have blasted the crud out megs...

And probably would have, considering his "no matter the cost" comment.

I dont know? Prime did have his gun aimed at Megs so Id assume that he would have blown Meg's head off if he would have pulled that gun on him and Hotrod wasn't there.

But Megs could have easily grabbed the upper hand with that gun. Either way Hotrod being there didn't help. It made things one sided.

2. RUMOR: Scramble City was meant to replace TF:TM in Japanese continuity and served to bridge the gap between "Tatakae" (US season 2) and "2010" (US season 3) and to introduce the movie/season 3 characters to the Japanese audience. The continuation, Scramble City 2, is a stop-motion animation using the toys and provides evidence that Galvatron and Megatron are not the same characters in Japan (see also 4).

FACT: Scramble City is a promotional video for the "Scramble City" toys. The first part consists of a brief recap of the events of "More Than Meets the Eye" (the cartoon pilot) and a scene from "The Master Builders" that serves to showcase Devastator. The second part is a new animation (albeit using a lot of reused footage from earlier episodes) that showcases the "Scramble City" combiners (Aerialbots, Protectobots, Combaticons and Stunticons) plus the two bases, Metroplex and Dinosaurer/Trypticon.

Continuity-wise, the story is set years before TF:TM, in the early stages of the construction of Autobot City. The only "movie" character who shows up in Scramble City at all is Ultra Magnus.

That stop-motion animation thing, meanwhile, is not officially named "Scramble City 2", and neither is it actually part of any continuity. 90% of it are a retelling of the original SC story, and the rest is just meant to promote some more toys (particularly Galvatron) as early as possible. It's a standalone "story", not part of the "official" Japanese G1 continuity.

Hasbro has made little attempt to "string together" original G1 canon -

That statement alone is enough to discredit any further theories you may have. :lol

Have to agree with Goki when he states that the Japanese series are canon in the sense that they are official but do not correspond with the G1 US cartoon.

My post was not corretly phrased I realize now. In that respect the Japanese shows are canon but just like the US comics they do not tie in with the G1/Beast Wars/Beast Machines show.

And I do not like those cartoons much. Wheter you like the show or not is not really relevant but if you look closely at it, it does not resemble the US show much.

I mean, the classic intro music is gone as well as the classic background music. The Transformation sound is only used for the older Transformers and the classic laser sounds are gone too.

Even if you love Headmasters to death, one cannot deny it is a completely different show than the US G1 series. Megazarak betrays Galvatron and actually destroys Cybertron. A blatant act if there was any. Galvatron destroyed Starscream in the movie for a similar act but he did not destroy Megazarak. Which makes me feel as if they did not get the character right. No Decepticon leader would allow betrayal to go unpunished.

It is also radically different in terms of storyline as it has a continuing storyline. One has to see all the episodes or one will not get the story. BW had such episodes but plenty of shows were also stand alone show.

And naturally the other typical Japanese influences: search for power, enphasys on power, overusage of Daniel, usage of "special attacks" and so on.

To cut this short, the show is just so different from the US G1 show that I personally cannot get into it. The changes are mostly related to the fact that it is a show made for Japanese audiences and in that context it would work.

However for a fan like me who is used to the western take on Transformers, the Japanese take does not work. Again, I am not saying that is a bad thing. Plenty of people love this show which is a good thing for them as they got 3 series of it.

Two things:

1.

"canon" = established/accepted writings/other media

"cannon" = something you shoot large metal balls out of

2. Bob Skir on the "Transformers coming to Cybertron" thing: "it was a mistake"

Well, if I recall correctly it was never really explained HOW the Transformers came to Cybertron.

The main thing to remember about a prophecy is that it is often vague. So the "coming of the Transformers" was foretold it could also mean they would be built or evolve one day.

You know, when the story editor for a series comes out and says "it was a mistake", it probably means it was a mistake.

Well..... and I hate to admit this.... but it can easily be retconned IF you accept the Japanese series as canon.....  in the jap continuity, Cybertron was destroyed, and Rodimus set out to find & build a new Cybertron....  so you could say that the Cybertron seen in BM was the replacement Cybertron, built on a dead-world that Rodimus & Co could have found and terraformed....

Did they bring Vector Sigma and the plasma energy chamber along with them?

Could've....  Vector Sigma going all female & Oracle could be retconned as damage from the explosion of the original Cybertron, and the PEC as well as everything else on Cybertron being recreated by the plans contained within Vector Sigma of what Cybertron was.

Just look at how the Key to Vector Sigma was changing the Cybertron in Beast Machines.... the original Key never did that in the series, only to organic life on Earth, but in Beast Machines it was also affecting things that were already metal
