Well the new Beast Wars Comic

Recommended Posts

and am i missing something? why is everyone taking this new bw comic into cartoon continuity? thats like taking g1 comics and toon together. perhaps this will be based around the bw show quite well... but still. its not a show. imo comics are their own contiuity. same way dw comics werent part of g1.

has someone said this is officially canon? if so ill just stfu.

When planning their BW comic, Dreamwave said that "they did it right the first time."  That wasn't said about any of the other TF cartoons that they were either doing or considering doing (This applies to G1, RiD, Armada and Energon).  While I can't say for sure, the impression that I get from IDW is that they feel the same way.

Typically, the reason that comics deviate from the cartoon is that they're running concurrently and therefore a total match up is impossible, or the comic writers don't think much of the cartoon.  Neither of these apply with Beast Wars.  I'd say that IDW is going to treat the BW show as unbendable cannon and delicately navigate their way around it.  Also, the writer of this comic is Furman, who has a couple of actual BW episodes on his resume.  He may not be Bob or Larry, but he definitely counts as a show insider.

And if nothing else, the first couple of pages pretty much establish that this story is in the BW universe, and then there's Depth Charge making an appearance, etc.

Now, I get where you're coming from.  The writers of BW2 pulled some story involving Primal helping LioConvoy out of their asses, and some people like to consider that as cannon (sorry XBob).  But I think this situation is different.  We've got an authentice BW writer, a situation where the cartoon has run its course and new fiction regarding it can be written in a way not to contradict it, and ultimately, unlike the BW2 writers, the IDW writing team even beyond Furman seems competent.

The thing about these comics that pisses me off is that 3H did the same exact thing already so theres bound to be counterdictions

We're taking it into cartoon canon because BW continuity is perhaps the most  coherent continuity out of all the TF-series. plus, Simon Furman, writer of the comics, wrote some BW-eps, and is known to be able to write "in continuity".

P.S. Don't even bother trying to think up names and alt modes for BW character's that were introduced via Status pod(except Rampage and Packrat) as the majority of them are "newborns"

Says you. Wolfang immidiately knew what a "Predacon" was, how it smelled, and that it's an opponent, not an ally. Ergo, he had this knowledge prior to entering the stasis-pod, ergo, he wasn't a "newborn".

The Status pod Transformers have prior knowlage of Cybertron, and the war before they are born via implanted memories.

Silverbolt: "Cybertron... the home I've never known."

Is that for my case or against it?

I just wanted to say to that guy who had a hissy fit on page 2 saying this was his last post, that I wasn't claiming to come up with the idea that BW megs and primal delux were their cybertronian forms, I read that on these boards, probably from his post, I was just confirming it.

I didn't realize I was suposed to provide a bibliography of where I hear ideas from on the message boards, lol.  Ah well, sorry he has to leave.  I guess you could say that was his Hardest Burden to Bare.

the ironic thing is that he was wrong :P

as Xbob already pointed out, we saw Megatron's pre-Earth robot mode in Beast Wars and it looked totally different. There are other things I could point to but really, it's stupid to even have to do so. This shouldn't even be up for debate.

Toys designed and produced ten years after the fact =/= canon

(and the same goes for comics)

P.S. Xbob that was "against" your case ;) One thing that was never fully explained to me was the way the Maximals showed no ambivalence whatsoever about blowing apart Quickstrike or Inferno, despite the fact that they were supposed to be containing Maximal sparks. Which leads me to think that these guys are more "new" than "old", even though that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

its been said numerous times that this comic takes place within the Beast Wars TV show "universe"

Right before the episode "Changing of the Guard" as a matter of fact

My case is that the Protoforms are "new" sparks...

see that was another thing that confused me... in this thread everyone seems to think the new primal megs are their pre earth forms. i thought it was debated to death and found that they werent in previous threads. this thread is all fiddle faddle foo.
