Why do you like Rodimus?

Recommended Posts

prime was perfect to a flaw. which bugs me. hotrod was more ballsy. but post movie hotrod was such a Beastbox. matrix mustv made him flacid.

as far as the toys go, terrible bot modes, awsome vehicles. same to be said about all g1s though. and i love them all.

I like HotRod's character alot more. Rodimus was okay but seemed like an odd choice to be leader to me. Especially when they had Prime's twin rolling around.

I think it's unfair (and this isn't our fault, just the way it happened) that we got to see Hot Rod's character in TF:TM where everyone was awesome, and we only got to see Rodimus Prime's character in Season 3 where everyone sucked.

BTW Ultra Magnus is no Optimus Prime, not even in TF:TM. I mean, the whole purpose of his character was to not be the chosen one...

It's also funny to see the Optimus Prime hate. I mean, you really have to try not to like that character. Maybe it's just a non-conformist reaction to his popularity, I dunno. I mean, I was never a big fan of Optimus, but so what, you know?

It's like when people talk of the dinobots they nearly always say grimlock was the best. personally though i thought swoop was the best as he was the smartest of the dinos imo

its easy to see why though.

at the start of the movie hotrod was just a young grunt. he was enjoying his freedom of being young not having much importance in millitary matters. end of the movie though he's the most important bot in the universe and is under tremendous pressure to do whats right.

i thought he coped tremedously well. (the ultimate weapon was a good episode i thought and showed some character development for both him and firstaid)

he didnt seem to have a learning curve though. all i remember was whining. did you ever hear primal whining? best leader ever.

the problem with series 3 was that once rodimus had learnt something he had reverted by the next episode

i prolly love rodimus/hotrod more than you... but i still didnt like how he was portrayed in season3. or headmasters. and i do think primal was the best leader from any series. but movie hotrod did pwn.

Seen, no. But I'm fan(atic) enough to have seriously searched the internet and read about the different Japanese stories. Synapses of the series as a whole and individual eps description. I didn't like what I read. Although there were some nice ideas in it and potentially interesting characters, as a whole they appeared to me as a more of the G1 cartoon, but worse. (But this is probably because I'm a big comic fan.)

Then you don't like what you've read/heard about it. It's kinda hard to blatantly say, "I don't like it" when you've never seen it.

Point of view, really.

I’ve seen G1 cartoon, BW, RiD, Armada, a few eps of Energon and the first 20 or so from Cybertron. From these I can plainly say I only liked BW. G1 and Cybertron aren’t bad, but the rest sucked big time IMO -- not that Cybertron is good or anything, from what I’ve seen it just doesn’t suck as bad as the others. With Rid, Armada and Energon I read about the eps before seeing them and I didn’t like what I read…and when I saw them, I didn’t like what I saw.

As I said, I’ve read eps description of all other series and thanks to the internet I’ve even seen a few eps of several of the missed series. With the exception of BM, I can plainly state that none of those series interested me enough to warrant spending more time (and money) in watching them. There’s simply nothing I find even remotely interesting about them.

Wrong to judge these unseen (but read about and partly viewed) cartoon? Maybe, however, I’m pretty sure that based on descriptions, pics, synopsis, and a little bit of download I got a pretty good impression of the cartoons, and I didn’t like what I learned.

Let me give you an analogy:

When the first pics of E Prime appeared, I immediately disliked this figure. This was way before I read anyone’s review. There was simply nothing about this figure that I liked. Nothing at all. I knew at a fundamental level, without knowing what this fig could do, or how he transformed, or even without seeing or holding him for real, that I absolutely didn’t like this one. I’ve since then read the reviews, I’ve seen the fig for real (and I now even own, as a side effect, the smaller powerlinx version) and I still absolutely don’t like it. I think it's the same with those missed cartoons.

Sometimes you need to see it for real (that’s why I’m waiting to see BM before judging that), but sometimes reading about it is enough to know you don’t like it. This is one of those times.

Well I like post movie Rodimus, but it looks like I am the only one.  but of course I am only thinking abount the few episodes where he actually led and had great lines.  I just watched season 3, and honestly there are only a handful of moments where he doubts his power, and most of that is probably due to kids being pissed that he wasn't optimus so the writers had to throw that in there although it wasn't justified.  In Hardest Burden to bear, you are right, at the end he finally accepted his place as leader, the the next episode is Return of optimus prime, and he is all ready to hand his power back over, which I always thought was anti-climatic.  But I never really like to consider Return of Optimus as part of the series cause it just seems tacked on to the season.  I love Optimus, which also seems to put me in a minority of Transformer fans, which I think is very odd, but I thought killing him off was the coolest part because the Autobots were forced to figure out a way to win without their God.  Sucha brillant thing to do in any show, but it was really just an excuse to seel new toys, but ended up making the show really dramatic, and helped set the tone for Beast Wars.

Thats why I like Roddy though is because he had a human side.  He wasn't brillianty written, but he had flaws, and was also a baddass fighter.  He was basically the prototype for Optimus Primal which was a brilliantly written character who was a leader but also had a lot of flaws.

I wish if they made a new cartoon series Optimus would be in the show very little, and just show up occassionally to kick everyone's ass, like some kind of super hero.  So in the episodes he showed up you'd be like, "Hell yeah it's Prime time!"  but most of the time you'd have to watch the Autobots strugglt to stay ahead.

I also dislike the fact that Optimus Prime has weird, almost fundamentalist-like, fans that thinks of him as a god and not a toy/fictional character that he really is.

I dislike that too.

what really pisses me off is when people add layers of depth to him that he didn't have. i've seen people add complex thought processes designed to make sense of his black and white views, people who add complex thoguht processes designed to make hinm a goddamn tyrant(my first post shot down the very notion of that, BTW. take a look at it.), etc.

I've seen people do it with Rodimus too, for what it's worth. Well, not the tyrant thing, but the other one, adding complex layers of depth to make him a better hero.

Yeah, I really don't understand why people invest so much into Optimus Prime. That reason alone is why I like Rodimus Prime over Optimus Prime due to the fact that he doesn't have as many weirdos putting meanings into him where there is none.

Rodimus Prime is also better than Optimus Prime due to the fact that he realizes that being a leader is just a job (sure he whines, but at least we know he don't think of himself as God's gift to the Autobots) whereas Optimus Prime pretty much think of the people around him as numbers.

I guess that's why he let Megatron shoot him instead of blasting Hot Rod.

Name one time ever when Prime had a cavalier attitude towards his troops. There aren't any. You can't say the same thing for Rodimus Prime.

You talk about people adding layers of meaning to characters? You're doing the same thing with him.
