Don Murphy speaks about voice actors

I'm not saying it would be better or more successful, just more creative and original. And originality / creativity is better than playing it safe any day IMO.

Originality would be great, but do you really think that the studios are going to risk the millions of dollars on a film that wasn't at least partially grounded w/ the ready made fan base? The easiest, cheapest and most assured way of doing that is to use G1.

I don't want to see a movie all about Megs trying to steal energon by making some big stupid solar energy harvesting device or something similarly ridiculous (which is the right way to spell that word for those of you that are unsure). I want to see a movie w/ cars and planes and tanks that turn into bigass robots and fight each other.

Sure be creative w/ the plot and the dialogue, but not w/ the general premise of the movie.

Absolutely.

You really think that? That they would make a movie w/ no ties to the original TFs except in name and the most basic of premises (ie transforming robots)?

I think some people in the production would like that.

Some people once involved in a movie's production once said;

"Yeah, I think we should keep the Street Fighter title and character's names and change everything else."

History proved that that attitude is stupid and not exactly profitable.

sterling logic...

Damn straight!!! Thank you very much.

It is after all, all about the profit, whether we like it or not. And IMO G1 = profit.

I think that's the fundamental difference in our opinions.... I don't think the G1 fanbase is of primary interest to the production, and that we as fans overestimate its significance.

My own personal stake in this is zero.... all I want is for them to present a unique/new/creative vision. A rehash of G1 won't interest me in the slightest.

I don't mean to say that they will in any way cater to the G1 fanbase (ie fanboys like you and me), but I do think that nostalgia plays a big part in the decision to make this movie and that they will stick w/ that idea for most of the major decisions.

Ideally, they would use Cullen and Welker and keep Prime as a recognizable semi-truck, but you never know. I don't think that it would go over well w/ the general public that is actually somewhat familiar w/ this franchise to go to the movie and see Prime w/ a different voice and as a different kind of truck. I think that the reaction would be, "WTF that's not how I remember Optimus Prime." Again, Prime in particular is the most recognizable character of the entire franchise and to mess too much w/ him or Megs for that matter (ie when he is in bot mode, he looks completely different and has a different voice, we all expect him to have a different alt mode, so that won't be a surprise), would only serve to hurt the overall box office for this movie.
