New Prowl possibilities

Recommended Posts

Well, I was taking apart my Alt Prowl today to get him ready for painting. For whatever reason, I decided to pop open the lightbar. I noticed that the central stalk (where the screw goes in) was a very light pink, fading to clear at the end. Hmm.

I then cut off one of the pins that holds the clear pieces to either side of the lightbar...it was totally clear. A scraping of the inside underneath the silver paint later, I find out that the lightbar is indeed painted!

So, I'm gonna be rubbing it with a little thinner to see what I get off. This opens up a world of possibilities for us police modelers out there!

Update:

Yep, got it all off. Prowl's got him a blue lightbar now. Pics soon.

I decided to give up once the visible red was gone.

Here's how he looks now:

Most of his robot-y bits are also weathered up. If you're interested,

Yeah, there's a red splotch on his hood. The Autobot logo didn't want to go down that easily.

very beautiful

Why two blue lights? I think one red and one blue would look better, but that's just my opinion :) maybe I should try it on my own Prowl...

What paint do you use for the transparant blue?

The model masters acrylics have some transparent colors. I use them on my custom slotcars which do get raced and they hold up pretty well for that.

plastic cone- when removing decals like the emble on his shest i have found that rubbing alcohol preps...on the lil pads works wonders without doing any damage

Prowl is going to be painted up in Massachusetts State Police blues, and we use blue lights up here (had they been molded red instead of painted, he'd have gone NYPD Auxiliary). As to the paint, I used Tamiya.

I used Tamiya thinner, which is basically stronger rubbing alcohol. Never once gave the little medical swabs any thought, though. Thanks for the idea. I might also try Windex, it's worked for me before, and I have way more of that than I do thinner or rubbing alcohol 'round here. I'm not too concerned about the spot since I'm eventually going to strip the white off.

....but... the white is painted over black plastic. how did you get that much of the symbol off without taking off the white?
