G1 Universe vs. New Universe

Recommended Posts

We have yet to see a truly serious attempt at Prime and MEgs G1 universe (similar to BW/BM) when that happens, then i'll be ready to move on.

you're such a fanboy :tflaugh

Transtech.

Ugh, no.  Despite the fact that the characters look cool as drawn in the Beast Machines show, the toys sucked some serious ass.  The Transtech was just a continuation of that and, again, might have been cool for a show, but would ahve sucked big time as toys.

Blech, I see far too much Strika in that Transtech Megs.

Transtech.

Nobody's denying that the toy/show thing in BM was a fiasco, but clearly Hasbro has learned from that mistake.

and anyway I like the toys and the show

Prime is the "Kirk" of TFs... I wouldn't mind seeing a "Picard" style leader for a change. :thumb

Janeway?

Transtech.

Character > toy

If I like the character enough, I'll buy the toy no matter how crappy it is. Why do you think G1 fanboys defend G1 so much?

"G1 Megs is the best toy EVER!"

"Uh...no- you just like the character and that's reflected in your love of the fugly toy- admit it."

:pfx times infinity

I guess I'm different.  I like characters from a show, but that doesn't make me think the toy is great.  The G1 is something I don't think you really can count...  at least not the origianals.  The toys were made so far ahead of what was done with them for Transformers that you just have to make allowances for that.  I have a thing for old 70's robot toys and I collect a lot of stuff from other lines back then.  Those figures will always have a little something extra that today's toys don't - it just has to do with the times they were built and designed in.

That being said, I guess I did go buy BW Cheetor because of the show.  Not that he's really all that great of a character, though...

I still don't feel as if the BM/Transtech stuff appears to me to really have the essence of Transformers to it.  It's as if there were another line that had fairly different design aethetics from "real" Transformers.  For the most part, the robots are VERY robotic and not very humanoid in appearance, especially when it comes to facial features.  I have to admit to being really turned off by that as a Transformers fan.

At least you're honest about your influences. And I admit, when I first saw the Vehicon toys I was like "WTF this isn't Transformers". But then once I saw the show and I got what they were doing with the Vehicons it made a lot more sense. And because of what they were supposed to be in the show, I came to really like the designs because they *did* make them look less "human".... which makes sense since they were supposed to be lifeless drones, symbolic and representative of tyranny and Big Brother and a faceless fascist society and all that...

The G1 is something I don't think you really can count...  at least not the origianals.

:roll There's always a clause.

he's right though, there's no room for dissing BM toys when G1 Megatron looks as super ghey as he does.... but this is well-trodden ground
