Restoring G1 / Older TF's

Recommended Posts

hey guys.

Over summer vacation I was in Hong Kong, and my older cousin gave me his old Ultra magus for free.  =D  Only thing was that it didn't have many of its accessories.  so recently I got a magus that did have all the acc (rubber wheels ver.~).  but joints on that one was not great.  on top of that, my brother was playing with my new magus core and snapped its left arm off... (tear)

so I decide to combine parts from both to make a good one.

what I want to ask is if you guys have any tip on restoring old G1 stuff when taking it apart.  or like how to restore whitened silver smoke stacks... probably I need to go to reprolabels to get a fresh set.... looks like it will cost me more huh?

thanks guys~ (and sorry for the rambling...)

Re chroming old G1 parts is pretty much not possible.  They are chromes originally with a vacum process.  But if you don't mind them not looking quite as shiny you can usualy find decent silver spray paints at most hobby shops to give you something close.

When your taking parts from one bot to another make sure you have a magnet handy to stick the screws too, and make sure you keep them seperated so you know which screws went where, usign the wrong screw and seriously damage a figure.  And of course loseing a screw jsut sucks.

To take off old damaged stickers I usually scrap off as much of the sticker as I can with my nails, then I use a Q-Tip dipped in Goo Gone to rub off the remaining peices and the glue that held them on.

After that clean the bot with some mild soft soap to get the last glue and Goo Gone residue off before you apply new stickers.  I recommend a pair of tweezers to do that, gives you a little more control when applying them.
