Waspinator's 2 heads

Recommended Posts

Hey all I haven't been here in a while.

I just got the BW rereleases yesterday and I was surprised to find that Waspinator has two heads!  I didn't know what to think at first, and sort of liked the figure a little less, then I thought, hey this is aweseom cause with his robot head I can pretend it's actually Starscemes head in charge of ole Waspy's body.

A pointless observation, but I was wondering if I'm the only one who though this.

most wave one bw toys have tat (inc primal) one is a robot head and one is a mutant head. in the show they just used the ones they thought looked best

Well, it was only used canonically as Buzzsaw's, to distinguish him from Waspy.  It's as much Waspy's head as it is Buzzsaw's.

Any one notice we keep getting the same topics within days of each other or even hours some times

'mutant heads' were seen as Battle Helmets for the early design of the Beast Wars toys. A lot of em have it. They were going to be used in the show, if you have the Box Set of Beastwars they have several toy accurate 3d models of the figures in speical features.. didn't take that direction, thank god..

They're all kind of lame, really.. the only one I think works really well is Megatron's.. even though it looks like he's got batwings comming off the side of his head.

It's a gimmick like force chips which was luckily dropped from the animation.

dropped from animation due to costs

Tarantulas and Blackarachnia both use the different head as well

only Cheetor and Tigatron both use the same head (bothead)

and for the toys: K9 and Wolfang had different heads (the whole toys got remolded!! the only one in BW (not counting japanese versions))

Although, if I remember correctly, Tigatron's box art used the mutant head...of course,  I haven't looked at that box in, well, going on ten years. Can anyone back me up on this?

It indeed uses the freaky insectoid mutant head.  In the show, it's similar to Cheetor's, but older looking, and more cat-like.

IIRC, at one point, the idea was that the Mutant heads would be used like battle masks, and represent the Transformers as they took on a more feral, enraged state.  Along with the concept for a quadruple-changing Optimus and Megatron (each would use both of their toy bodies; Bat/Gorilla for Optimus, T-Rex/Crocodile for Megatron, and two 'bot modes for each), the Mutant heads were dropped due to the cost of creating and animating all the extra models.
