The F... word in Galaxy force ??!!??

Recommended Posts

Yeah..it's sometimes used in TV Nihon's translations. They've used it in various ways on various shows...I've seen it used so many times on TVN's shows, it wasn't much of a shock...

I haven't been following TVN's GF but both they, and a lot of other fansub groups, tend to use swear words to try and cover the harshness of tone as used in Japanese...I don't really need to add anything after Haggisman's excellent post but it's no real surprise that they've translated it thus way. Personally I'd think twice before putting the word 'Powerglide' in Convoy's mouth.

:tfevil Thundercracker, you such a dumbass! :tfevil

yeah in japan they seem to be a little more open with what words can be used like sh1t and bastard. IMO i thought flame convoys line "Stop F**king around" to master galvatron was one of the highlights of episode 50

GF IS KICK-ASS!

There's no real swear words in Japanese, not as we think of them.

There are just differing levels of politeness (OVERSIMPLIFY'D), and when translating it into English most people doing it for a non-Japanese speaking crowd convert cultural comments into swear words. Like (not the above example) if someone said "Namena ja ne- yo!!" I'd translate it as "Stop Powerglideing With Me!" or "Don't Powerglide With Me!!", when it's literal tranlation is "Don't lick me!".

Not that speaking to someone in the wrong tone isn't a bad thing to do in Japan. If I ordered my gf's Dad around in the manner of Flame Convoy, I'm pretty sure he would BURN ME ALIVE. For the most part I get away with sounding like Nitro Convoy or, ocassionally, Gasket.

So, if a character like Flame Convoy who's entire existence is based around the concept or raw, brute force talks a little uncouth, Jap parents groups are less likely to start a boycott than some seppo housewives with nothing better to do than be scandalised by a cartoon speaking in a manner that's appropriate for the character.

I couldn't have said it better myself!  :clap

When watching Headmaster there was a lot of cursing in it which does not suit a children's show.

Of course I do not mind myself but for a kids show it is just wrong.

But the whole thing could be completely different in the translation, I do not speak Japanese so I would not know.

I think the Transformers should use curse words but then words like "slag" or whatever. I mean "go f* yourself" does not mean the same to a Transformer. It should be go "scrap yourself".

And of course Flame Convoy does not like taking orders from Galvatron.  :tflaugh

Wow are we all 5 again. "Mommy, Convoy used the F-word"

Yup, amazing what we can all say about one of the characters using the big baddie word.

I was just a cheering him on!

Though i did laugh my head off when Starscream used the word Sh*t in episode 42, i said it along with him.  :clap  :thumb

OK. The subbed versions available online are targetted at adults. Kids aren't downloading episodes, they are watching them on TV. They aren't swearing in the RAW version, so unless you are a child, there shouldn't be a problem with the sub having vulgarities in it. If it is too much for you, just wait until Hasbro butchers the episode. Or watch the RAW version.

Haven't seen any of GF but I know for fact Americanized versions of anime do tend to go slightly overboard with the swearing. Has anybody seen the english dub of the original appleseed. 40+ fbombs dubbed in and it's under an hour long.  :tflaugh

Speaking of the TF the movie and Spike cursing there was a silly rumour a while back that Optimus Prime apparently calls Megatron a "Powerglideing bastard" after he disembowls Blaster. Is there any truth to this or does someone just want attention?  :wtf
