To be honest, I don't think it was any religion that influenced GF, but rather, the Disney-isms of how no matter how absurd it may seem, the bad guys are always oafish and idiotic while the good guys have all the answers, have to believe in themselves, and will always win in the end no matter what.

The "believing in yourself" is usually a humanist tone, but when it comes with charging auras, miraculous recoveries and super-powerful finishing attacks, it adds a certain Eastern religious tone to it.

IMHO, they shouldn't be preaching any religious beliefs, Eastern or Western, on a kiddie show.

I don't think they really do that, but it's sometimes difficult to separate what the writers believe from their messages they want to purvey on television, especially when it's a kids' show with the mandatory moral lesson. Also the "believe in yourself" is something that is actually more general and humanistic to Westerners, so it doesn't really bother the PC-conscious, not to mention a tired cliche in which the weakened good guy makes a grand comeback because of his "heart" or "will" or whatever the plot device is suppose to be.

That's a fine line nevertheless. There should be something that would filter out any religious beliefs from a kiddie show. It wouldn't be fair for anybody if all religions were to be taken out of something secular but that of the writers.

The PC police strike again....... I really hate how we've become so allergic to any ideas we don't already agree with 100%. God forbid we might actually be challenged or learn something.

Then you'll love our NDP party here in Canada. Do you know that according to them, the Bible is a piece of hate literature?

You have a point, LM, but the fact that we are letting one idea getting more coverage than others (in this case, Eastern religion) is something that should not be allowed.

Note the difference between a "Way" and a "Religion." There is nothing religious at all in Galaxy Force. Religion requires the worship of one or more dieties, and rules that are given by a specific center. Ways are just what they are named, ways of existance. There is no rules except for what you make of it.

Religion = Control

Way = Freedom

Freedom cannot exist with rules, unless they are ignored.

You're creating a distinction where there is none. Lots of religions started off calling themselves "the way" (such as Christianity). You don't need a god to have a religion, and you don't need to have centralized authority to believe in God.

Buddhism is an atheistic religion.

Yeah, but who determines what a "religion" is and what a "way"? What the hell is freedom? I know the idea of freedom is a religion to a lot of people (look at Bush - if democracy was an actual person, he'll be on his knees and start... well, you know.)

Freedom cannot exist with rules? I think that's 100% inaccurate because if there is 100% freedom, I have 100% freedom to kill you 100%, but then, you'll be 100% dead, and 0% chance of exercising your 100% freedom. So if you put a rule saying "no killing," it isn't 100% freedom anymore.

And don't be fooled by the New Age religion schtick they are trying to slip into the kids cartoons. They are preaching, pure and simple.

LM:

Why shouldn't there be religion taught in cartoons? We haven't have overt Christianity influencing our airwaves and that's been working fine, so why have another religion take its place?

Not to meantion that if God wanted to control things He wouldn`t have given us our own free will. Granted it is extremely sacreligious but the movie Bruce Almighty definately emfassizes it. God loves the human race after all we are His children, his creation. Love can not exist with out the freedom to choose wether or not to do what the other wants. You don`t say to your wife that she has to do everything you tell her and expect her to be your slave right? Same idea between us and God. He gave Adam and Eve the choice of obeying Him and living there in Eden for all eternity or disobeying Him by eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge and dying spiritually. They repented but that didn`t change the fact that the sin had been commited and they had to pay the price which was that they had to leave the garden of Eden.

As for the religion=control while way=freedom. You have it backwards Christianity esspecially is about choices granted you need to make the right ones but you have the freedom to make the wrong ones. Also those of us who believe in Christ know that if we do things wrong there is grace from God that will cover all that we do so long as we ask forgiveness seriously. Now that doesn`t mean that we are to go back to doing the thing we are asking forgiveness for after we asked for Him to forgive us for. In fact we should avoid doing it again as much as possible and pray that God keep us from the temptation to commit the sin again. Kind of like how when your children do something wrong they ask you to forgive them, you do, and then expect them to try not to do what they did bad again.

Understand?

As for the question of wether or not a show can have a religious message without God/ gods or deities you need to go watch the Cronicles of Narnia the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. I`ll give you the short form really quik a young girl finds a magic land in the back of a wardrobe, the second time she goes there one of her brothers follows her and he meets the witch she tricks him into trusting her and he ends up betraying many people to her. Acording to the law of Narnia all traitors are to be turned over to her but Asland the true king of Narnia offers himself in the boy`s place. The witch of course accepts and kills Asland. However she didn`t really understand what the law was all about and when she killed Asland on the stone table in the boy`s place she fullfilled the proffecy that brought about her own defeat as Asland rose back to life and the stone table cracked in two. Tell me there is no biblical link there if you think you can. Then go see the movie and think about it.

There's a lot of Christology in "The Matrix" trilogy as well. Don't tell me Hollywood is actually embracing Christ....

Actually, the true meaning behind Galaxy Force is spiritual awakening. Not sure if this is reflected in Cybertron, but not likely.

In a sense it does follow GF in the spiritual awakening too..

Outside of minor changes to make GalaxyForce be a sequel to Energon, other wise Galaxy Force would be just another stand alone show... alla the Sentai shows in Japan to our power rangers.

Arrgh, I must be tired that doesn't make sense! :wtf

Huh, that doesn't make sense either- christology, or do you mean christ like themes? or Theology?

Yeah never heard of the word christology before either. But the Cronicles of Narnia were writen by a Christian man who was trying to convey the Christian faith in such a way that even children could understand it better. And that they would be more suseptable to than an old time preaching ceremony. Hmm what was one of the biggest movies last year oh yeah the passion of the Christ. So I think that people are looking for a deeper meaning to life and yes you will ussually find that in religion. Granted not all religions teach the proper things but I do know of two that have been around for a very long time that most of the world find help hope and happiness in. Those are the Jewish faith and Christianity which comes from the Jewish faith.

well this is a strange discussion.

Personally i have no religon, but do believe in freedom of choice. I also believe that many of the lessons Jesus tried to preach were correct. Hurry for him. :thumb

However i believe that all religons are works of man. This is not an insult but mearly my oppinion and is as unsupported as any argument partaning to religon.

I believe religons evolve as we do. Is it really a coinsidence that most religons before Cristianity were brutal and designed around sacrificing people or doing dark deeds to appese the gods? I personally don't think so.

Our idea of god changes as we do, if you want a recent example the church one fround upon female ministers/priests why? because it was said that women were worth less than men. But now that someone has said that Women should have equal rights (which i agree with) they have no choice but to stop being distainful toward them.

The Cristian idea of what god is an example of how our ideas can change, while many religons of the age supported barberism Christianity tried to avicate forgiveness and getting along. If the world's people christian or not, subscribed to those ideals e.g. 'being a good samaraten for no reward but to help a fellow man, the world who be a happier place.

As far as lion, witch and the wardrobe, i think Aslans resurrection was more due to the fact that the white witche was going to break her word. e.g. my life for the boy's, but she was gonna break that and kill the boy anyway, the powers that be knew and said 'hey time for some payback!, so she broke the law of Narnia 'do not backstab b****!'
