it's all about the futility of attempting to go against the will of God/the Universe.

think about it, no matter how powerful Megatron becomes, Galaxy Convoy always manages to beat him with little effort. also, most of Megatron's troops are either dead or they defected to the autobot side when they realized the futility of trying to defeat Galaxy Convoy. and why is Galaxy Convoy so neigh invincible? because he literally has God on his side, ie, he's carrying out the will of Primus. the message is clear: you should just accept your destiny and do not interfre with the will of the Universe because it is futile to resist.

Of course, it has NOTHING to do with the writer's whims. Nothing at all.

Actually I think Hornet has a point here. Please don`t think me sacreligious but I`d say that Optimus is almost akin to Moses. Hear me out. He leads the Autobots through their journey here on earth in their eyes a great wilderness. Also Optimus holds within his spark a connection to Primus the matrix, just as Moses carried the ten commandments. Once again I`m not being sacreligious, as I`m a very firm believer in Christianity, which is much more than a religion it is an actual relationship with our heavenly Father.

well there is the eternal struggle/balance of Good and Evil. The forces that create the good and the bad resonate through out the universe and form into two seperate universes: the positive matter and the anti-matter. I just read "CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTH" so this adds to the madness.

I'm not going to comment on GF or any Transformers cartoon specificallly, but I cannot help but be surprsied at the short sightedness of so many people on here.

A series is commisioned to make money, whether through toys or whatever.

Writers are paid to write the story and have to stick to certain confines.

I'm not disputing that.

However, writers usually began writing from a desire to create, and it's not unheard of for a writer to admit either during or afterwards that he used the medium he wrote for to push his own beliefs, morals or whatever.

It's no different with song writers or any kind of writers. They all hope to make money or are paid to write, but that does not mean that what they write is automatically garbage or as shallow as it may seem.

And that's not romanticized either.

Any person who can make money whilst pushing their own views will almost always do so.

If the fact that something was created to make money means that it has no other meaning, not one thing in this world has any meaning at all, and writers have no ideals, no desire to spread their voice and no ego either.

That's a tad naive...

Speakign as a christian myself, I tihnk Hornet is waaaaaaaaaaaaay off here. there's no deep plotline to GF. it's just an entertaining fluff piece. if I wanted ot watch a cartoon with themes, i'd watch Beast Machines. there's nothing in it at all that indicates that the reason Megatron is consistantly beat is because of his goign against "god".

he's not even consistantly beat. he's the first Megatron to have more than jsut a few teeth since RID. Energon Megs was almost a threat, but his corruption by Unicron made him even more foolhardy than he was in Armada. GF Megs did nearly kill Exillion, Backpack and First Aid. by that I don't mean he would have if somebody had blocked them. the only reason they frigging lived is because they triggered the reformating process. otherwise, they would have died. this was stated quite clearly.

the god/Primus connection is just a throwback to Marvel G1 comics, and to a limited extent BW. that's it.

I don't recall the Matrix in this series beign a connection to Primus.... i'veo nly seen the first 30 episodes though. IIRC, it's just a mark of leadership that has some abilities, that's it.

joshlowe, you have a point. After all, Superlink AKA Energon, BW and BM were all complete series' in their own right. far more than just toy ads. GF seems ot be the same way. However, the only theme i've noticed is "If we work together, we will overcome." That seems to be a common theme in children's cartoons over in Japan, if the ones ported over here are any indication.

Edit: josh, I know you weren't refering to GF specifically. I was meerly using your point ot further my point, if that makes any sense.

You're right for the most part. Superlink was all about teamwork, but from the 40 episodes of Galaxy Force I've seen it has more or less a believe in yourself theme.

*Smacks forehead.* I can't believe i Missed that. hell, IIRC, the only reason Exillion, Backpack and First Aid got reformatted is due to them beleiving in themselves and their wish to protect people that they cared for.

I`ve noticed that alot of the different episodes have had themes though them. For instance the episodes where Hotshot kept upgrading himself to get faster and he ended up messing himself up. Those were to teach kids that if you change just so that you can win then in the end you`ll just screw up your own life and probably lose in the end. There have been others but that`s the one that stands out. As for the connection with Primus they`ve meantioned that the Cyber Planet Keys were like pieces of Primus and that the Matrix and Vector Prime`s sword were some how connected to the Cyber Planet Keys, and that`s how they get their alternate forms. I think that was the episode where Optimus and Vector went to Jungle Planet and met Leo Breaker. It was explained by Red alert.

GF is obviously influenced by Asian religions. You got the TFs believing in themselves or having sheer willpower, and they can do anything. There's the yin-yang aspect that requries "the balance between good and evil" but for some reason they try to combine it with the Western idea that "good triumphs over evil" which is pretty contradictory.

Also, you can notice that Primus is virtually helpless without the Autobots helping out in getting the Cyber Planet Keys. They had to activate him to face off against Super Starscream, and it is only in their efforts to get the keys that Primus can stop the Grand Black Hole. Their concept of a god is not exactly an omnipotent being.

To be honest, I don't think it was any religion that influenced GF, but rather, the Disney-isms of how no matter how absurd it may seem, the bad guys are always oafish and idiotic while the good guys have all the answers, have to believe in themselves, and will always win in the end no matter what.

I hope for whatever cartoon comes next is that they end it with the decepticons winning control of cybertron (or earth) and the next series would be about the autobots several years later trying to rebuild a force to retake the planet. Sort of like G1 season 2 to the movie but with an actual story not just a narration explaing what happened in the last 20 years. I'm getting kind of sick of the Megatron is stealing mini-cons/energon/cyber-keys, Megatron gets upgraded to galvatron so the autobots upgrade too; etc formula we seen since armada.
