Don Murphy's Sunday Update

I actually liked LXG  :redface .

(But then, I never read the comics so had no preconceived notions about the whole thing.)

That's kinda part of the reasoning for Don opening his forums to the fans, I think.

Financially the movie did very well.

A lot of people did like it.

I thought it was harmless and entertaining popcorn fun.

But the fans of the original comics were VERY vocal in their criticism of the movie, that got picked up by critics and it snowballed.

Even a small fandom can do a movie damage if they're vocal enough.

So it makes sense to try and balance the mass appeal and fan appeal as much as possible to avoid a repeat of the bad rep LXG got.

Personally I think with both the comics and the movie it was a case of an absolutely brilliant idea, but pretty unimpressive end result. The comics were enjoyable enough, but certainly not the works of genius some people might have you believe.

Not a lot of NEW news from Don this week, so I won't start a new thread on the subject, rather just report this week's update.

Of most relevence to the TF movie are these little snippets:

Dreamworks sold itself to Paramount, but as a functioning unit- they essentially bought Steven so I don’t expect too much to change.

...

Roberto, Alex, Michael and Steven met to go over everyone’s notes and now the writers are hard at work on a rewrite- one that, since it will be further along I will feel more comfortable telling you about, I hope. The initial budget has gone in to the studio and there is now the inevitable back and forth about this and that to close the deal. The film is on track to Greatness.

Basically we are in the “in-between place, just before Xmas too, as the various pieces of the movie work themselves out. It all feels good, but things need to coalesce before there is any meaningful news to discuss.

As regards the "summit", Don had this to add:

We all wrote pages of notes that were part of the summit. I was led to believe that everyone liked mine the most, although I didn't get a sweetie as a reward.

No doubt the next thing will be Don getting bags of candy through the post.

Nothing else that we didn't already know, but I'll keep you informed of any further news.

Read the original thread HERE.

The film is on track to Greatness.

Greatness? :tflaugh

Let's not lose track of what this is gonna be.

As long as it's fun, and not just for the PG audience, I'll be very happy.

I'm not expecting it to be an award winner, or anything.

Stupid flesh creature!

Just some random redshirt yellow hardhat will do.

You know what I like about giant fighter action flicks? Building are leveled cars smashed and homes destroyed but you never hear about casualties. Power Rangers have destroy so many buildings themselves.

If Megs destroys a building and nothing is mentioned about the casualties, just pretend it was a mass homoside.
