which one is the more comprehensive as far as the toys go?  I don't really care about canon.

Generations is the better book as a complete toy reference. It'd be even better if it was English. :) But.....

Language issues aside, the thing that made the pages so captivating in TFS, is simply the photos. Unlike the Generations book, which simply showed the alternate modes of the toys, TFS took pains to show the transformation processes. Which means, a hell lot of photos! Screenshots from the cartoon are also included, as well as conceptual sketches. If the toys were already reissued in TF/C (otherwise known as "the book reissue series"), we also get to see the packaging pics. These pics are small, but you won't miss them.

This is the regular edition. I *think* they're out of the Deluxe edition which has extra concept art and comic info.
