Doesn't anybody ever use the term retool anymore? I personally don't care what hasbro or anybody says reguarding the definition of new molds. A new mold is a new toy altogether, anything less is either a repaint or a retool. Retool fits because that's all Hasbro has really done. Exchanged/added parts to the original mode. the only truth to any of this is that the parts such as a roof/head are new molds, the toy is still basically the same and I don't thnk should be referered to as a 100% new mold just because hasbro defines it as such.

So far I've been content with only collecting at least one of every mold. I honestly don't see the point in owning the same toy twice. The only exceptions I would see worth bothering with are Shockblast, and the upcoming Sunstreaker. Sunstreaker I was initially going to skip but after seeing how well the retooled Sideswipe as Deadend worked in yellow he's a must buy. That's quite an accomplishment considering I don't even like the Sideswipe mold.

Reguarding this news, I'm willing to pick this new mold up as Optimus Prime, but I'm with Revolution on this one. Ironhide is getting severely shafted. This mold would be perfect for him where as with some retooling and a shelby paint scheme this would be awsome as Soundwave. :thumb

BTW, don't feel bad MH I accidently busted the same mold. Seriously how'd you break it?

Hasbro doesn't consider Retools and Recolors as new molds. Where are you getting this? I read several times on their own site where the refer to new characters as remolds or recolors. Back when Decepticon Alts were Announce they said theirselves that the Decepticons would be retools of the previous Autobots car molds with extra parts added. Original    Another example

Buzzsaw (df58):

Buzzsaw is actually an older Transformer name that dates back to Beast Wars! In 1995, Hasbro created an all-new line of Transformers toys called Transformers: Beast Wars where old characters were reimagined into animals. Megatron became a Dinosaur and Optimus Primal was a gorilla. One of the characters that was never in the TV show, but appeared in product was Buzzsaw – a yellow jacket wasp. This toy, which originally was used in Transformers: Armada as Cyclonus, was given a new head mold that resembles the Buzzsaw toy from 1995, and a paint job the hearkens back to the colors used on the Beast Wars toy too!

Then at BotCon they said we'd get 4 Retooled/Recolored Alts and 6 new molds. I don't think I've ever read were they claim an old mold is a totally new toy.

Thought so too, but after reading the tread entirely through some are for some reason or other arguing that retools are new molds altogether which IMO is flawed logic since as I already said is basically the same toy with added/exchanged parts new colours and in no way a new mold.

:wtf What the frax?!? What about the original?

Unless I'm missing something there's alot of discrepencies with that statement. The Buzzsaw name was used on a Waspinator body but the figure was never made as the Cyclonus that's mentioned, the head that is on the "Retooled" Waspinator doesn't look anything like this Buzzsaw :D > and don't get me started with the time frames thrown about... ARGH.

Back to the point of this thread: I kind of accept whatever name they throw out there. Whether it's Optimus Prime or Ginrai it's still a new mould. Granted, it's mistransformed ... but it's still something to look forward to. We're all customizers of some degree here or there so we'll just buy it and make it "Our Own" character.

As for me... oh, yes! How I have plans for this certain frame! :mwahaha

Aaron gave some terminology for us to use when talking about modified toys. A lot of us will already know these terms, but it was nice to hear clear definitions directly from an expert.

Retool: using the same molds and adding detail by grinding it into the steel; only small changes can be done this way, and they are irreversible.

New Parts: swap out a mold for a new one; new head, new weapon, etc.

New Tools: Energon Starscream was the example here, with his similarity to G2 Smokescreen (from Dreadwing and Smokescreen); a rule of thumb was given that if a toy is more than 15% different, it will be a new tool instead of a retool; also, of course, if it's a different size, it's a new tool.

Redeco: a change in plastic colors, paint colors, or paint masks.

Regarding redecos, Aaron said -- as has been heard before -- that they are basically used to replenish a line and keep it looking fresh. When planning the line out, they do not expect everyone to buy every single piece that is released, and that is why the number of redecos -- which sometimes frustrates collectors -- is not generally a problem for the line as a whole.

Also. Fixxored! :)

Buzzsaw is actually an older Transformer name that dates back to G1! In 1984, Hasbro created an all-new line of Transformers toys called Transformers where old Japanese toys were reimagined into wacky sentient fighting super life robots. Megatron became a gunn and Optimus Prime was a trukk. One of the characters that never got any love in the TV show, was Skids – a box. This toy, which originally was used in Transformers as a Honda City, was given a new head mold that resembles the Skids toy from 1985, and a ghey sticker that hearkens back to the colors used on the G1 toy too!

Don't matter to me... Bring on Optimus and Nemesis Prime.... none of this Scourge crap!

Don't consider the MP Prime apart of the Altenators line... screw the child safety standards! It wasn't meant for Children anyway!

As far as the sword... wait till transrepro makes the original... then order it.

Your missing something. What they are stating is that, the Cybertron Figure, "Buzzsaw" is a Retool of the Armada figure "Cyclonus". They arent saying that the Beast Wars fig was Cyclonus.

And Loki, the argument, as I saw it, is that one of the TFans(dont feel like searching for his name) in his opinion, no matter how much retooling a bot gets, it's just a repaint to him.

Who wrote this, it's funnier than Hasbro's original post.
