anybody gona repaint their Galvatron reissues?

Recommended Posts

anybody gona give him a better color purple treatment than the final version Takara is offering us? and for those that order the ehobby original toy color, anybody gona paint that as well ?

I wasn't to keen on the colors for the reissue that was supposed to be the cartoon acurate version, so I painted my old G1 Galvatron to match the cartoon and gave him a light up cannon. Although I doubt that many people are going to go through the hassle of repainting a new one when the can get the purple reissue.

You never know though.

I like that your repaint is both toon accurate in robot and alt mode. Awesome work  :thumb

I just got a Galvy through Ebay not to long ago and have been contemplating doing the exact same thing. The stickers are absolutely crap so pulling them off isn't an issue. I actually think he looks way better without any of the stickers anyway. I'm also thinking of replacing the bulb/light with a rtronger red one, replacing the battery case, as well as the sound effects card. Is any of this feasable?

:pfx both look amazing and improve the overall asthetics of the toy imensely.

Maximal Prime, what kind of brand purple(?) paint did you use?

I used Krylon Fusion brand spray paint for the bluish/purple. The color I used was "Blue Hyacinth"

As for Loki's questions, I might be able to help a little. The battery sits inside his chest, which is molded somewhat to fit the battery. To change that might be a MAJOR undertaking, since everything is built around his chest piece. As far as the soundboard goes, I have no experience with anything on that scale, however I can tell you that the board that comes with Galvatron leaves almost 0% room for anything else. Perhaps if you put a smaller one in there it might work. As for the light, The bulb sits directly behind his face and is surrounded by clear orange plastic. I used one of the red plastic decoders for the old file cards, cut it to size and glued it behind his face so that when he lights up his eyes are red instead of a pale orange. Be warned though, this figure is pretty complex for a G1 transformer, and there are a lot of (small) parts and screws. If you are going to dissasemble him, make sure you have a clean organized surface to work on. I have a couple of pics of Galvatron when he was dissasembled in a W.I.P. forum over at Transtopia.com, it has a vain attempt at being humorus as I was painting Galvatron, as well as a very detailed step-by-step of how I kitbashed his light-up cannon.

I have to second Maximal Prime's comment about G1 Galvy. I took mine apart back in the day and just about ruined him b/c I couldn't figure out how to get him back together. He's got a ton of ratcheting joints and a million corresponding teeny black pieces.

BTW for those hoping to repaint their Galvatron reissues, you'll also need to paint the thighs, since they didn't color those correctly (the legs, not the thigh guards).

ALSO... that kitbash is AWESOME, Maximal Prime. Really nice work.
