Pre Transformers oddities 1

Recommended Posts

Going over some more olf and new picts for Pre TF items, I was reminded of several odd Pre TF differences of functions that got lost in translation.

Megatron had several differences so I will start with him.

First off, he came in 2 colors, the chrome silver version we grew up with, and the stealthy black version (minus the stock and scope mounts)

Both came with a big chrome sword, along with the silver handgun.

They could also as you probably know by now, shoot little plastic bullets.

It is not clear if the toy could actually fire bullets from the rifle extension or not, one picture of Megatron in his “Sniperâ€? mode using the scope as a scope with the barrel and stock as a bazooka shows it firing.  (anyone who actually has a Microman Megatron please feel free to fill us in).

From the back of the box, it appears that it was intended to have come with a microman (micronaut) but every box I have seen or have pictures of do not show a spot for one.

Megatron was apparently supposed to be user friendly, or at least his stock pieced together cannon was.  With an extra attachment (unknown if it was ever produced) fit in the back of the mounting bracket that let it hook to the back of Megatron’s legs.  It created a backrest for the drivers seat so he could sit there and fire.

Who knew the anti matter firing gun draining its power from a black hole needed a scope…AND had a seat for a flesh creature to sit and take aim with it…

I'll be posting more interesting things to point out later.

the reason for the 2 diff versions was because they were 2 diff. robots. There were four gun brothers. the one with all the bits and pieces (g1 megs) was Man from UNCLE p-38, a special edition based on the show. the regular version was just P-38.

I too have always wondered if they actualy shot the bullets, knowing those days i'd say yes.

There were 5 Microman guns to be released in Japan:

MC-07 M1910 Browning

MC-12 Walther P38 (silver)

MC-12 Walther P38 (black)

MC-13 Walther P38 UNCLE

and the Magnum revolver guy, forgot his ID number.

And Megatron DOES shoot bullets. I haven't tried it myself, but it appears in the instructions for SE16Special Megatron reissue (black) that I have.

Remember...The original TF toys were spawned from the "Microman" (aptly named later "Microchange") line.  These were machines that would be able to be used by the Micromen.  Which explains the compatibility between the Microman figure and Megs.  I don't know if the Microman Megs had the backrest and I'm pretty sure Megs was never released with a Microman figure.  Megs does fire as Tripredacus had mentioned.  The firing mechanism is located in the rectangular looking piece that is shown in Backfire's second photo (it's the piece at the tail end of Meg's super-bazooka).

You can buy the parts to upgrade any Megatron to make him a working toy gun from TransRepro.com.

I bought a kit and it works good.

Its not too hard to install it either, and comes with 4 rounds.

Some of the knockoff Megatrons (like the black one that was just posted) has the working parts and will fire.

I think you can get the sword too.  Which up till recently was only available in the Japan release of the Gray Megatron, basicly it was the black one re released in gray instead of black, there is no mount for the scope or stock, and the inner parts are blue instead of red.

Yep the riffle extension fires projectiles - the first part that fits onto the flared tab at the butt of the handle.

You are describing the eHobby "Megaplex" repaint of Megatron. He has the blue on the inside and plain gray on the outside. Megatron re-issues:

Special 16 FSRL Megatron (silver)

Special 16 Limited Edition FSRL Megatron (black)

eHobby Megaplex (Collector's Edition)

TFC Megatron

I think that is about it on Megatron re-issues. They all come with the sword I believe, not sure about TFC Megatron. I do know that TFC Megatron has a variant where some come with different color missile trees, although those with the different missiles also seem to have slight differences to the box, and it wasn't determined if one wasn't just a really good KO or not.

Yes. The reissue comes with like 30 bullets I took off one to leave loaded in his firing chamber.
