Displaying and Protecting TF'ers

Recommended Posts

sweet, i'll have to test that out on a few extras i have!

Also folks, to avoid a lot of yellowing in the future: Keep your toys away from the light, any sunlight will wreck havok in months, even normal lighting can slowly hurt them. Halogen/floresent lights seems to do the least amount of damage. Overall, make sure to turn off display lights every now and then, and never never never leave them in direct sunlight...ever.

I have a bunch of original G1 Transformers that have been boxed up in the attic.  I have been purchasing some other G1 TF's to complete the collection.  I then plan on putting them out to display.

I have also begun collecting the ALTERNATOR series - both the BT japaneese series and the regular Hasboro US version. I have not taken any of these out of the boxes yet -as I don't know how/where i'm going to display them.

Problem - might as well not own them if i'm going to leave them in the attic or in a dark room for no one to see them.    Also, i'm not a fan of pure MISB. Sure resale is the best (but if it's a pure 'investment' - get into stocks - not transformers). I enjoy looking at them - in both modes.

There are basically 2 problems then

- keeping DUST off of them

- keeping them from discoloring (yellowing) and fading

I figured for the DUST factor - I was going to buy some acrylic cases -much like people put footballs, and other collectibles in. I'd get several and encase various ones.

My old original G1's are not yellowed at all. My Jetfire is bright white.  BUT - it's been in an attic for 15+ years.

I'm now concerned about putting them out for display and RUINING my entire collection.

Suggestions??

sell them to me.... at a really low rate... then feel happy you never have to worry again....

okay honestly I dont display them for the dust and color issues.. but I do keep all the loose figures and accesories bundled in clear shrink wraping that I used a hair dryer to seal... that way you can pose them and still keep everything together and dust free...

are you one of those guyz that have clear wrap on their couch also???  :wtf  LOL  *teasing*

i don't see how clear shrink helps the fading issue tho.  I would prefer to buy acrylic cases instead of shrink wrap - as far as the dust issue tho.

display them in clase cases or any other enclosed area to keep off dust, and like i said, just use "soft" lights on the more than normal light bulbs. And by direct sunlight, just make sure there are no windows that allow direct sunlight onto the shelves. Since i live a little ways up north, i tend to always have my shelves away from rooms with south facing windows, since thats where all the sunlight somes in. North facing windows do not hurt the toys since it is not direct light. It's not as hard as it sounds.

I actually covered my windows with the toy shelves. As for dust, well I just move'em every couple of months and I don't appear to be having any problems. Mine have all been on display for 6+ years and thir fine.

I also use that compressed air that people use to clean computer keyboards with to clean/dust off my tfs and other figures.  Don't hold it too close or condensation will form on the toy.  But it can be a good way to clean little crevices on bigger toys with lots of nooks and crannys.

Tazbot.  I also use it.  I didn't know about the holding it too close.
