How are they going to move their mouths?

Recommended Posts

Why would nanotech or liquid metal be necesarry? What about a durable elastic material? If their mouths were going to be made of nano-tech, their whole bodies would be.

Interesting I was for some reason or other thinking about the same thing the other day. Optimus Prime will be the easiest since all they have to really do is move the mouth plate up and down when he talks but it'll be really interesting to see what they come up with reguarding other characters. Beastwars mouths sound like the best bet but how would the do it convincingly so it doesn't look cheesy or out of place. Also will they be given teeth and skull structure similar to way they were invisioned in G2?

Also is Beastwars the characters entire face carried a lot of emotion. Especially Primal and Megs reguarding human like eye movement, forehead creasing, and scowling. Could it work in a live action design or would it be best to keep it limited and more robotic than organic? Time wil tell I guess.

Lip-synching voices in CG is pretty tricky and time consuming. For the number of bots used in Cybertron/GF it was probably easier to just give basic mouth movements. In Beast Wars they had more time to focus on characters so it was easier to make the mouth move appropriately. I imagine the movie will just move the mouths similar to BW. That makes the most sense.

considering how radicly a transformer body can change from a simple reformat, who says they AREN`T entirely nanotech?think of it like the T-X. their main skeletal structures and primary components are normal metal constructions, the rest of them is simple nanotech that`s codelocked to a particular form, their "skin".

How the mouths will move will be the least of our worries.  We are all just hoping it will be good and that it will come out soon. :redface

I just had a horrible thought.  What if they make all their Transformations like they are liquid metal, go from a robot form, turn into liquid goo and then into a car.  Seems like something stupid Hollywood would do.

And all facial expressions will be taken care of with 1980s-era animatronics.  It'll be like Terminator meets Flight of the Navigator.

Reformats aren't simple...  as far as I can tell, you need some highly advanced doohickey like Unicron or the Oracle or those alien guys from BW to do that type of thing.... Transformers are just more clunky and mechanical than a T-1000 or T-X. Thir skins aren't nano-bots . . . if they were, you'd have to come up with some lame reason why you never see their skins behaving in a way conisitent with nano-technology.
