Woohoo. All I need is Galvatron and I'm set. I set forth and made a list of all the figures I wanted. Then pared it down to the must haves. My objectives were to have at least 1 of every ___Master, all of 1984, and show accuracy. I trimmed citybots and the larger more expensive figures cause they take up a lot of space and I try not to break the $100 barrier for any toy.

I gave up on waiting  for re-issues. I'll pick them up when they come out and replace accordingly. But I'd rather be young enough to enjoy these toys before I'm too senile to remember why the hell I've got a room full of kids toys in the first place. :)

Tips:

- Make a list.

- Check it twice. (optional: Determine if you're naughty or...)

- Set dollar limits for each toy. This is entirely up to you. Shockwave may be worth $100 to me but $5 to someone else.

- Too pricey? Go fair condition loose. Put in the time and effort to clean. Add a dab of paint here and there, throw on some reprolabels and it looks good as new.

- Don't obsess over it being complete. If you're only going to display it in vehicle mode 90% of the time. You won't need the hand/gun accessories.

- Be patient. For every auction you lose. You will eventually win one near your price. Assuming your price isn't unreasonably below market value. Sniping is a must. :D

Obviously this doesn't apply to MISB and other types of collectors, but for the casual fan I find it works pretty well.

I also highly recommend picking up the TF Generations book. If you can't own every one you can at least own a picture of them all.  :thumb

Great collection. Reading about how happy you are, makes me happy!

I like that Custom Red alert!

Damn.

Nice collection.

If I had the $$, I'd love to have all the Powermasters, Targetmasters, Headmasters, Combiner teams, and the citybots. Dinobots too, but I only need Swoop to collect that section.

The one line I can see myself realistically collecting all of would be the Alternators.......mainly because I've got 14 of the 16 already released in the US, only missing Dead End and Meister.

Now, if I one day say win a powerball or hypnotize Bill Gates into letting me have his laundry money (Figure that's worth a few million....;) ), the goal is then every single G1 transformer ever made, save for Megatron.

Why not him? My girlfriend and soon to be finacee HATES guns, and would refuse to even have a toy gun in the house. I figure that is not something worth fighting over.

Oh yea, I feel ya.

After the last few weeks (when I went all crazy on ebay again), I am pretty close to owning all the bots from '84-'86 (in other words, the good ones, hehehe). Anyway, I am trying to make myself chill out when I get outbid on Gnaw for the 4th time, but like you said, for every auction that I don't win, I am one step closer to winning the one that is the price that I want.

Oh and I took your advice on the list and estimated prices even before you suggested it. I have a list of all the bots that I need broken down by line and year, and I have a box next to the ones I need, plus the price I want to spend, and a checkmark next to the ones I have gotten, w/ the price I actually spent (most of them are significantly below what I anticipated). My only problem is that I want a nice figure and am trying to patiently wait for it, but sometimes that is damn hard.

Anyway, nice thread and good advice!!!

I hear ya c717905.

I lost Gnaw 7 times. And I was bidding on auctions where he had his tail. Was tempted to cheap out and get a junker but trying finally paid off.

Computron. Who I thought was the combiner nobody gave a crap about. I lost 5 times.

Then there's the lucky stuff like Outback for a penny. Damaged box Predaking. Shockwave, where I took a risk on a 80% feedback seller. ehobby Streak and Astrotrain before they went all crazy in price.

I could never get into G1 collecting.  For one thing, it's pretty cost prohibitive.  Another is the fact that G1 toys just don't seem to hold up well.  I collect G.I. Joe figures, though.  Other than improved sculpting techniques, there is nothing in modern Joes that makes the ones from the '80s seem old.

I'm doin my G1 collecting in seasons. I've got all of season one minus Shockwave as of last week. I've got most of Season 2 due to reissues and just need the larger ones such as Omega. I don't get sidetracked on picking up other lines as I'm purely a nostalgia collector. Easier on the wallet, but not that easy.

Always nice to get a deal, and it looks like you got some good ones. Like I said before, it just takes patience and you will eventually get what you want (and if you get impatient, then you can always pay too much at an ebay store).

Love GI Joe (or at least I did when I was a kid), but alas I do not collect it, only my wonderful TFs. I have found that if you buy good, well taken care of G1 figs from the beginning, then they are relatively easy to take care of. Yes, they are mainly for display, but they are still fun to get out and transform and will not break or discolor or anything if you treat them correctly.

Nice collection man. :thumb

I collect every G1 bot I can find, vintage and reissue. I even collect the KOs of every G1 bot I see out in stores.
