Gundam homages

Recommended Posts

Chalk this one under 'news to me'. I had no idea Gundam influence in the transformers line goes all the way back to at least 1990. Maybe earlier.http://unicron.us/tf1990/toypics/skyfall.htm

Look at the tech spec and card art. It's even more blatantly so. :)

So off the top of my head:

Actionmaster Skyfall

Energon Mirage

Energon Omega Supreme (the ship)

Galaxy Force Blender

What other ones are there?

Edited for clarity.

You do realize Gundam is from the 80s, right?

1979 if want to get picky about it. :tflaugh

Please see my username and make inference from there. Also, read ze topic.

seeing as alot of the G1 cartoon character models were heavy influenced by gundam i dont see this as any suprise

I think this is what's confusing people.  It sounds like you're saying that Gundam influences go back from today to 1990 figures.

I never made that connection though, even though I have AM Skyfall (somewhere =P).  TFs are far from the only line to have Gundam-inspired (or stolen) designs, since Gundam, Macross, and a few others essentially established the military giant robot genre in the 1980s.

Well share and share alike. Transformers and Gundam have always been the powerhouses of Japanese mechanics dating back to the Diaclone days, back when Transformers had pilots. Much like any if not every major giant robot: Voltron (combiners) to Valkyries (transforming bots, period). The Gundam influence as of late more so than any is the amount of detail that can be molded into the toys and also through the animation value. There's not a time I don't look at my 125 gundam models and see something like that on a TF. From the minute details like Cybertron Prime's (supermode) 'chin' to so much as the way certain bots Transform.

So if I wanted to make a custom transforming Skyfall out of one of the few Gundams that transforms, what would be the best starting point (keeping it sized close to most G1 Transformers)?

1979 1/3 if you want to be even more pickier  :tflaugh
