Halloween Optimus costume

Recommended Posts

So here's what I threw together for a Halloween costume competition at work.

First prize was an iPod nano, whereas I unfortunately placed 2nd.  I won a bottle of wine, as well as a mug filled with chocolate and other goodies.

The costume was made out of cardboard, duct tape, glue gun, and masking tape.  I put a layer of papier-maché over the helmet/head because I didn't think spraypainting on top of duct tape would turn out any good.  The parts are held together with plenty of velcro.  :D

I'll post more close-up pictures later.

That's not bad lookin'. What did you use for the transparent stuff for the eyes?

Here are some more closeup pictures.  I tried my best to base him after MP Convoy / 20th Prime.  Unfortunately, I have nowhere near the proper body physique needed for this kind of costume.  :P

Total time spent on this costume: approx. 15 hours (not counting waiting for paint to dry).

Total amount of money spent: approx. $10CDN (for 2 cans of spraypaint.  I had everything else easily available at home)

My proudly hand-painted Autobot faction symbol, done at 2am:

G1-style paint apps on the arms!

Ghetto legs.  I couldn't find anything suitable for wheels, so I sorta made my own.  I didn't have room after the wheels for the fuel canisters (or whatever those things were), so I skipped out on them.

I went to a crafts and hobbies store, and picked up colored acetates (overhead transparency sheets).  An 8"x11" sheet (actually it was 9"x12") cost me $1CDN+tax.

It was a dude who dressed up as an old lady who got electrocuted/fried by a toaster.

IMO you got robbed.  Nice job. :thumb

Looks good you got robbed. I do have a suggestion if you want to "fix" the legs. You`ll need to completely rebuild them so the front goes up over your knees and leave an open space in the top of the rear of the legs for your knees to bend that will give you the couple extra inches for the fuel tanks. Wear it again next year with a couple of upgades. The knees and make the chest so that it`ll open and make a matrix that goes into it with a tap light in the middle of the matrix to "light our darkest hour". Just a couple of thoughts on the possibilities I see for your costume.

Thanks for the ideas, Rodimus.  And thanks to all for the "approval" of the costume.  ;)

The leg thing would've been good to include on this one, but I was short on time... Started the project Monday night, and costume competition was Friday.  Tight schedule.  :P

Thanks for the support guys.  I still feel a little annoyed that I got beaten for the iPod by a toasted cross-dresser.  Oh well, at least Amazon delivered my "Complete Calvin & Hobbes" books. That'll cheer me up a bit.  ;)
