After seeing THS Convoy, Who's still Pressed

Recommended Posts

I've had a dusty old G1 Prime with Trailbreaker's fist for like 7 years. When Collection #0 came out, I wanted it bad so I could have a fresh clean Prime but then Photos of MP Convoy surfaced.

If your G1 Optimus Prime is dusty, why not clean it up? If you are missing the fist, there's always Repro Parts.

Although I had many TF's in the 80's (early 90's), around 130 if I'm not mistaken, and I still think fondly of especially the early G-1 (c.q. those TF's that were borrowed from other lines), I just can't get really interested in them anymore. For example, I think diaclone Powered Convoy looks amazing and several times I've seen him on e-bay, but I just can't get interested enough to buy 'm.

The only way I'm interested in those old toys is if they re-engineer them to give them poseability (same look, same transformation, but (highly) poseable). That won't happen, so I won't get interested anymore. Where the G1 nostalgia is concerned, that need gets fullfilled by alternators.

Why pick just one, get them all, muh hahahaha.

No seriously, you gotta have certain G1 figs simply for their nostaglia, but also for their value. I like knowing that I have an absolutely pristine G1 Omega Supreme that is 20 yrs old, looks as good and works as well as the day it was made, and is worth a buttload of $$. But I do agree that today's figures are soooooooo much better by comparison. If I started collecting today, I would get nothing but BTs and MPs b/c those are the best figures out there. Plus they are homages to the original G1 characters, so you get the best of both worlds.

I can see both sides of this argument, and unfortunately that is costing me much more money.

Eh, what are you gonna do?? I love Transformers.

EDIT: I always forget to relate these posts to the original topic. I will most likely be getting THS Convoy if it is as cool as it looks. I have both the original G1 Prime and MP Prime, but I am always willing to add another cool figure to my collection.

I like this new prime...looks great. NOt sure about getting him, however he looks like a vast improvment over the RM prime. Isnt this going to be about the same size? As for the whining fest over G1 toys....just stop. We all know they are not posable. We cant expect the reissues to Magically have Uber Articulation. THey are what they are....reissues of 21 year old toys...older then probably a good amount of people on here. They are classics, just like classic car. That is what gives them their charm.

Now I was thinking about getting #0 again but now with THS surfacing with trailer and roller for probably way less than #0.....

I don't think it will be way less than the ORIGINAL cost of the #0. Course prices are now way over inflated on this reissue. I think the THS will be close to $60 or $70 if they include everything. What was the GF version when it came out? $60 or so? When #0 came out it was not so expensive then.

Spencer.

saying you collecto TFs for the cash value is BS when you spend so much time on a TF message board.

I collect them to PLAY with them. And I'm 31!

Big deal.

Who says 30 year olds or older can't do like kids do? Maybe then, we wouldn't be so crabby.

My only gripe about this new THS Convoy is that he's so uber-detailed that he's not passable as a real truck anymore.  IMO, that takes away the key ingredient of TFs - the alt mode!  Still, I may buy him once I see pics of the actual product... I keep all my TFs in bot mode anyway.  I just hate the thought that I can't transform him and have him look like what he's supposed to.

Yay!!  My first double-post!! :clap :redface

saying you collecto TFs for the cash value is BS when you spend so much time on a TF message board.

Are you referring to moi?? Read what I said a little more closely.

I collect them for all kinds of reasons, the most basic being that they are damn cool toys that actually do something. I love the fact that I can completely change the look of my collection merely by transforming each firgure into its other mode. That rocks!!!

I have never said that I collect TFs for the cash value. If I did that I would simply invest in them and then sell them for a profit (which wouldn't be too hard if you know what you are doing), but I have never done that, and I never plan on selling my personal collection for profit (duplicates are another story). The fact that I can appreciate how much these figures are worth only shows that I understand the market for collectibles and that I can appreciate something that is 20 yrs old and still in great shape as opposed to a beat up POS. Who here wants a G1 Prime that is missing an arm, has no accessories, has beat up/chipped chrome and was painted w/ a sharpie?? I don't, and I doubt that you do. I want a Prime that is complete and as I stated above looks like it was just made yesterday. For that I am willing to pay money, and silly me to know how much my collection is worth. I also am able to afford some figures that other people may not have (by saving my money and not spending on things like drinking and smoking), and honestly that does give me a small sense of superiority. It is the same thing as when I was a kid and I went over to a friends house and said, "wow, you have Jetfire?!?!?! How awesome!!!" (something I did to a friend of mine, and now I have Jetfire, and I love that feeling). I enjoy showing off my stuff, just as much as I love seeing what other people have (see all my posts in the Collectors Corner). I admit, I am a little childish, but come on... need I explain further???

Anyway, I love my collection and I love talking about TFs, as I think that you can tell from my other posts on this board. I just think it is the smart thing to know how much money I have invested in this hobby.
