The Sharpies Strike Back

Recommended Posts

Well, I had recently purchased a bunch of RM Starscream KO's off ebay, all the blue plastic parts were all red, and the canopy doesn't open, but has a light-up LED, plus the canopy isn't painted... the only thing painted is the two vertical fins.  Anyhoo, originally all I did was take one and paint the canopy up with an orange sharpie, which turned out red on the plastic.  This weekend I got bored and thought I'd try repainting some of the others into Thundercraker & Skywarp... well, I used a blue, black, & silver sharpies and it turned out a very deep dark blue.  Ok... so I break out the next one to repaint into Skywarp, try applying a purple sharpie to the red parts, and they turned out black...  So I decided then to try the generic seeker, which is just skywarp with the colors swapped.  So I try applying the purple sharpie to the gray plastic... and it looks exactly like the blue I used for the TC :redface  So I give up on that plan and just start using other sharpie colors, green, yellow, & red, and painted up the rest of the KO's I had, and the results are as follows (showing actual RM TC & Skywarp for comparison) (keep in mind I did all these with Sharpie permanent markers and I did these all over 2 days):

Youve been doing this at work havent you?

Anyway great work, the green one looks awsome, along with all the rest.

I did take them apart, but I don't have any paint, and I don't know how to paint :tftongue.  I did have the sharpies tho, and marker doesn't really layer like paint does, so there's less chipping and scraping.  The main downside of the markers tho is if your hands are somewhat sweaty or oily, a little bit of it will rub off onto your fingers.  But on the opposing plus, it's really easy to touch back up :thumb

Oh, and the silver sharpie is a paint marker and not a permanent marker, so it does layer & chip :tdown

lol, no, did 'em at home, just brought 'em to work since that's where I already had the RM TC & Skywarp.

The green one does look pretty good, but I think it turned out the worst, the green sharpie wanted to run, so it ended up with more of a 'streaky' finish, plus it's still kinda sticky feeling.  The yellow one was turning out great, 'til it sat overnight, and now looks a bit more like puke... but still looks OK

i like the red one as well as the green one, is the starscream one the original colours? if so i can see why you repainted them

Yeah, the screamer is original colors 'cept for the canopy which I painted... on the KO as it came there was no detail on the canopy whatsoever

Those are not bad.  How is the quality on the KO and how much did they tend to run you after shipping?

I like the colour of the purple one. Very dynamic.
