okay stick with me on this one. this question seriously bothers me. when optimus dies and passes the matrix,it goes to his second in command......ultra magnus right.

well he died got rebuilt and lost the matrix all because of leadership issues,which finally brings me to my question

 

if the matrix goes to the second in command,is it not true that had starscream not killed prowl he would have inherreted the matrix of leadership and become prowlimus prime'' it sounds gay but he was a proven leader on cybertron and has a strong will'', just not the attitude that no one likes in hot rod or the staleness of ultra magnus.i personally thought this would have been a good direction for the tf's.

I think by the stage of the movie Ultra Magnus was definitely the nominal second in command. Prowl was just second in command in the first two seasons of G1. And even that was unclear - in the first few episodes Jazz appeared to be second in charge. At another stage Ironhide took charge of the Autobots 'cos they couldn't tell which of 2 Primes was the real one.

nah prowls tech spec was 9 second only to prime.

 

and in the movie he was second until he was killed..as second in command he flew the ship that was attacked

Cool idea. I always loved Prowl.

Prowl was okay and may have made a good leader but i actually preferred their choice of Hot Rod/Rodimus. I liked seeing a rookie as the leader, someone who wasn't necessarily a natural born leader and had many trials an tribulations. I enjoyed Season 3 immensly with Rodimus as leader.

Prowl would have been a cool leader if he wasn't dead by then

The movie ignores the techspecs...as should everyone.

And just because you get the Matrix, it doesn't mean you get an "imus" in your first name....the change with Hotrod to Rodimus was due to the storyline of Hotrod absorbing Optimus Prime's lifeforce, specifically...

Grimlock also had a rank of 9. Jetfire and Hot Rod had 10, which makes no sense; they weren't even group leaders. Ultra Magnus has one of 8, even though it should clearly be a 9 or maybe even 10, since he's the commander of Autobot City.

For more proof that tech spec numbers are nonsense, just compare Hot Rod to Targetmaster Hot Rod. What's the point of becoming a Targetmaster if your firepower goes down? Why did he get such a big demotion, and go from being one of the smartest Autobots to one of the dumbest?

 

I think Ultra Magnus was the true second in command of the Autobots. Prowl was just the second in command of the group that was on Earth in the first two years.
