I have seen the Devil, and his name is DUST

Recommended Posts

I posted this on another board tonight, but found it worth talking about here too.

How do you deal with dust and your collections?  Smaller collections aren't as much of a chore as bigger ones, but when they get big,...aside from putting them in a glass case, how do you handle it?

Any tricks?  What do you use....air cans, polish, etc?  Name your tools and how often you use them.

Air cans, lots of air cans.

I found early on though...that air cans don't take off "all" the dust.  There is usually a layer of dust that still clings despite your air can efforts.

Havn't tried it myself I would try a combination of a few things I'd personal take a shopvacesque method, by putting a small tube connected to the exsaust vent and tape it on the vacume hose and blow off the dust and suck it up.  have never personaly tried it (since I dont have a vacume versitile enough) but it sounds like a solid method of getting the dust off and getting it out, other then just blowing it off the collection and into the air and back on said collection.  Someone mind trying this and get back to use.

I use an old towel, air cans, and a small brush that is for cleaning the air vents in cars. The old towel is fluffy enough to be gentle and reach cracks and crevices. The air can is good for touch up jobs and for hard ot reach areas. The brush also gets off the dust that either the air can or towel won't reach.

True, but mine move around enough for that to not be too much of a problem.

Air Compressor. On a very strong setting.

Handi Tak. You know, that pliable rubber stuff that you can stick up posters and stuff with?  I've found no less than 43,980,321 uses for this stuff, yet Ive never hung a poster up with it.

Just squish it into those hard to reach cracks and immediately yank it out. Just dont squish it too hard, or it'll be hard to get out and dont do this over stickers or decals, it'll pull them off. Same goes with questionable paint apps.

air cans and feather dusters, yes i said feather dusters. :tftounge
