i don't think that the 4th GF planet

Recommended Posts

it seems that everyone from Giant Planet transforms into construction vehicles. now while there are some pretty big construction vehicles out there, most people don't automatically think "Big and huge" when they think of them. most people tend to think "Construction and demolition" first with "Big and huge" being a close second. also, the symbol for the Giant Planet force chips is a gear, that doesn't exactly make people think of giants. finally, Megalo Convoy's american name is Metroplex which also really doesn't have anything to do with giants.

my theory is that originally, the 4th planet was to be home to a race of tf's who were master architechs, able to build entire cites in short periods of time. they probably build the cities for their minicon companions to live in and as a form of art. this would certainly fit in with the construction vehicle theme, the gear symbol is better suited for tf's that build things, and naming a tf "Metroplex" because he can build cities makes more sence than to name him that even if he doesn't transform into a city base himself. my guess is that when Hasbro shared the designs for the "Build Planet" tf's with Takara, Takara wanted to change the theme of the planet to "Giant Planet" to better justify the toys' large sizes.

Good idea, though the actual characters from the 4th planet completely dwarf every other tf. In actuality, Megalo Convoy is in scale with LOC prime, since it comes with one. So, their friggen huge, and well giant.

Correct.

Since they couldn't build the figures to scale with the regular figures, causing them to be uber expensive, this is probably the reason that they decided to make a few figures in the LOC sub line of Cybertron, to be in scale to the characters from Giant Planet, unfortunately, that doesn't put them in scale with the Mini-Cons.  They themselves have been "miniaturized" (bad pun :redface )

um, isn't it possible that the toys are the real scale and that the animation models were enlarged after the decision to change the theme from "Build Planet" to "Giant Planet"? if it was always intended for the 4th planet to be Giant Planet then why does everyone turn into construction vehicles? they're not the only extra large vehicles in existence. couldn't HasTak have thrown in a giant spaceship or a giant mobile carrier?

Good points.

This isn't directly related to your theory, but it's something to do with the Gigalonia/Giant planet TFs.

Is it just me, or do Guardshell/Landmine and Demolisher/Mudflap have a similar aesthetic to the two other TFs from that world (Blender and Molediver)? Especially Guardshell. I mean, sure, they're both construction vehicles. But if you look at how they look beyond their alt mode, I think there are similar sort of traits going on. They certainly don't look like Earth vehicles, anyway, which is where they're supposed to be from. I dunno, I just have some sort of feeling that they were originally intended to be Gigalonia TFs, but someone changed their mind, be it someone from Hasbro or someone from Takara. I mean, there's only three Gigalonia TFs. There's been at least 4 or 5 show characters for each planet so far (Speedia: 6, Animatros: 6 (if you count Liger Jack), Earth: 5 (if you don't count Demolisher and Landmine)). If you add Demolisher and Landmine to the Gigalonia lineup, you get 5 TFs from there...

Gigalonia sounds like it means big or Gigantic.

Now I have to buy some LoC's to pose with my Metroplex. I feel like a kid.
