I don't know if anyone think of about the name of transformers.( i only point G1)

today, i wanna discuss about optimus prime.

 

well, we all know the offical name for this great leader is Optimus Prime.but we can also named convoy.

now, i want to lightly to analyze why have op.

 

i look up the dictionary, optimus from Latin,means "the best',a pontiff named optimus maximus; Prime means " the first", so we can see from animation, OP really a good leader of carbot.

 

but why have the name "convoy"??i think may be from his car mold

btw, also i wanna know the signification of megatron and galvatron.

convoy is basicly "semi truck". but it has become more of a tita bestowed to leadersl, not a literal translation.

oh, i see, may seems similar to my opinion of convoy.semi truck--funny.

i remember i saw a explaination about some figures. IMO, megatron and rodimus are inapprehensible name. ultra magnus is a good name.

Megatron Means Great Robot.

Gigatron Means Giant Robot.

Galvatron means Robot who stimulates.

I have never really looked at the significance of the leader's names.  I do like most of the other G1s name. i.e starscream, thundercracer, blaster, soundwave, bumblebee.

galvanize -

1. To stimulate or shock with an electric current.

2.To arouse to awareness or action

3.To coat (iron or steel) with rust-resistant zinc.

 

I would guess, going by def 3, that "galvatron" implies megatron was galvanized by Unicron, giving him a stronger, damage-resistant body.

Vector Prime is an interesting name, especially since it's used by Hasbro and Takara. Prime means first, or perhaps just being used to denote Autobot leaders here, or there's other meanings.

 

Vector is interesting prefix with it relation to the word Matrix. A "Matrix" is an array of numbers, typically 2-dimensional but 1-dimensional, 3-dim, etc. are also "matrices". A Vector is specifically a 1-dimensional array of numbers. Put 2 or more Vectors next to each other and you've got a Matrix. So Vector Prime is 1 component of the matrix, perhaps the "first"
