But which is the Targetmaster? The robot who holds the gun or the robot that becomes the gun?

:tfhuh  good question, not sure?

megs would not be able to size change if he was a true targetmaster.

the robot, not the gun, is the master. think about the idea of the old west. the power is in the man who knows how to wield it, and not by its power.

I would say the robot that holds the gun. If we were talking about Headmasters, would you call Arcana the Headmaster instead of Brainstorm?

Both, it's a mutual relationship, with out the gun the larger robot is left unarmed, with out the larger robot the gun is useless.

Agreed. The same goes for Headmasters and Powermasters. It really just comes down to semantics. Targetmaster Scourge with Fracas just sounds more right to me than Scourge with Targetmaster Fracas.

Hmmm well in the US comics (or was it Rebirth?) the gun controlled the aiming if I remember correctly. Whoever used Aimless was complaining that he couldn't shoot straight.

Indeed. That's why we can say that Megatron is NOT a targetmaster.

Targetmasters are Transformers that transform into guns, but Transformers that transform into guns might not be Targetmasters.

Targetmasters, Brainmasters and Powermasters are specific groups with certain properties. One of them is the fact that both the big robot and the small one are linked in some way. The other is the fact itself that Megatron is a regular sized robot, not a Micromaster sized one.

In the same line, Beast Machines Megatron Megabolt is no Headmaster

I think you're remembering The Rebirth in this case (and it was Misfire who had Aimless, by the way). I like to think that the Transformer selects the target, aims the gun in the target's direction, and the Nebulan does the fine tuning to get the aim just right.
