And they fail to mention that Transformers was made in a american animated style before the recent series. Nor do they mention the original Ghost in the Shell movie, which made help make anime and manga in the US today or other anime series that have been here for years such as robotech

Hasbro gave Dreamwave the licensing rights to create yet another comic for "Transformers," Japanese toy-maker Takara's phenomenally successful line of mutating toy robots that spawned a TV show, a comic book and a movie in the mid-1980s.

And here's where we come full circle.

Slated for 2007, Dreamworks' as-yet-untitled "Transformers" movie (search) will be the closest thing we'll see to a major mainstream attempt at bringing manga to the big screen.

I'm confused.

I briefly skimmed the artiacal but that IMO is narrow minded and stupid.

Transformers the cartoon last I knew originated in the U.S. and the only japanese influence then was the diaclone toys. everything else was 100% Northern American. i can see this artical confusing as well as upsetting a lot of the G1 fanbase. transfomers may exist only in anime todat and I know the live action version won't be a retread of G1 but to say it's being directly adapted from Japan with no mention whatsover of it's earliest orgins makes for bad publicity period. This piece makes the project look like a live action Rid/Armada. Not to say it won't have a Japanese influence since I have no idea what's going on with the movie last I heard Murphy was opting for something in the G1 Marvel Continuity. :schin

Before this was written/submitted someone really should've gotton there facts straight. :roll

prepares for vicious nashing of teeth from fanboys aross the board. :eek

Okay I reread it and caught that blurr about the mid 80s but whoever wrote this is still misinformed.

The article was about manga coming to the big screen; it wasn't a Transformers press release.

And the information in that article isn't untrue; just incomplete.

P.S. who cares :roll

This is nothing new.  Remember Speed Racer?  Astro Boy?  Voltron?  Battle of the Planets?  Thundercats?  Tons of "old" cartoons were Japanese imports.  And manga/anime has already made it at the movies.  Look at the several Pokemon and Power Rangers/Super Sentai films that hit the silver screen already (not to mention the Disney importings of Miyzaki's films).  It's an integration of two cultures and can only make entertainment in the US more enjoyable.

There's another article on the movie too: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,162512,00.html

You can find it in the "STORIES" box to the right of the first article that is horribly wrong.

Orson Welles narrated Tf:the movie? Unicron wasnt exactly a narrator.

"names like Optimus Prime, Megatron and Override"- i would have thought Starscream or Soundwave or Bumblebee would have been more famous than Override...

They don't know what theyre talking about anyway. They're referring to "Manga" as "cartoons" AND "comics". Some sort of manga apparently influenced the new Transformers film. Can anyone tell me which manga did? I personally doubt a G1 manga even EXISTS.

And... "samurai-like movements and girls in microscopic miniskirts"...? The only samurai-like movements I see is from samurais, and those miniskirts... I'm not even gonna go there.

And was there even an Override in G1?
