Generations and Fans...

Recommended Posts

Bear with me on this, this is something I just thought of.  ANyway, you know we have the original G1 fans.  The ones who grew up watching the original show and whatnot.  Some of these guys (and girls) grew up to be the ones to nitpick at every new toy saying "its not G1 enough." We then have the generation who grew up watching BW, (ex: me) Where watching BW has the same effect as the older fans watching the original G1 episodes.

Now heres where I think it gets scary, obiously were gonna have fans who'll nitpick at everything saying it doesn't have enough BW homages in it.  But now we have RiD, Armada, Energon, and now Cybertron.  Each bringing something else to the table, the Energon generation could be watching the movie and say, "Why didn't Prime powerlink to kick Megatrons ass?!" So what I'm saying is, what do you think about the different generations for TF's and fans?

I'm all for Generation One.  I was born in 1980, so I grew up with Optimus Prime being a truck and Megatron being a weapon.

As I grew up, I left Transformers...only to get my first job at KB Toys.

I saw Machine Wars...and passed it up...because I was too much of a "grown up"

I saw Beast Wars toys...and they made no sense to me at all...so I passed them over.

I saw RID...and I was still at a point in my life where toys just weren't "cool."

Then Armada came, and Prime was a truck, and there were cars...and Megatron was a weapon...a big weapon...

I love Generation One...but I have respect for all generations.  As a present day collector...I have gone back and gotten the toys I missed in RID, and a select grouping of Beast Wars toys...and I'm trying to watch the series that are available on DVD.

I think the generation gap is necessary to keep things interesting in both the platform, and with the fans.  How boring would the boards be with the gap in generations?  Everybody would know just one Optimus Prime, and one Megatron.  IMO thats just boring.

I'm a G1 fan for sure, but I'm all for all the toys. I think we just attach ourselves to what we first grew up with. It's that simple in my world.

I grew up with G1, but I prefer to think of myself as being a G1-continuity (G1-BM/U) fan.

I grew up with G1. I think BW is a better kids' show. I personally enjoy watching BM as an adult. I have no interest in the Japanese TF series that are on now. I don't know what that makes me.

I'm a G1-fan myself, but I'm not going to bash BM/BW fans or armada fans or RiD fans over their likes and dislikes. Each to his own, I say.

I was to young to remember the G1 reruns, so I grew up with Beast Wars. I was lucky to grow up with an different cast of Transformers. To me Prime isnt leader, Optimus Primal is. Also to me BW is an true example what a TF show be like. Really it didnt have stupid gimmicks or annoying kids. I really think todays kids should of had their own TF. Instead Hasbro is reusing the G1 names.

I was raised on G2 and the G1 reruns.  Loved and still love G1 continuity(japanese included).  I passed on Beast Wars and Beast machines because they weren't vehicles.  Started back when Unicron came out, and I love everything now. :clap

I was in the Beast Wars Generation too! But then I noticed the entire season about the Ark and stuff. I also grew up in the time of Google, :P And then I became obsessed with Transformers and didn't realize how cool it was too.

If the kids grow up and be fans they can find out easy, but little kids are just like, OMG THIS SHOW IS COOL r, OMG THIS SHOW IS CRAP! *throws toys out window* I doubt there are many fans of Cybertron, Energon and Armada or even RiD because they weren't that good. Although when the movie comes out they might get interested, hell, who knows what will happen when the movie comes out!!

I only watched 1 G1 Rerun. And the only character I can remember is Skidz.
