C-Hotshot Modification

Recommended Posts

I had a topic a few days ago about the shoulder gripe in C-Hotshot. Here it is:http://www.TFans.com/talk/index.php?showtopic=27835 if you want to read about it.

1.This modification will require a screwdriver to open the shoulder pieces together, for a total of four screws. The screws closesest to the head should not be taken out.

2. Now, carefully take out the arm pieces from the dismantled shoulder piece. There is a small metal washer that fits on top of the yellow plastic that the bottom screw goes into, which should be watched carefully.

3. On the shoulder there is a plastic notch that will need to be removed via exacto blade or razor blade. Here's a pic of the fig from remy's: http://tfkenkon.com/g/?mode=view&album=Col...ze=1000&start=0

You can see the notch above the wheel.

4. Reassemble, making sure to keep the washer above the yellow piece, and your done!

Hotshot should be able to move his arm past the perpendicular to the shoulder. I would post a pic of the finished piece, but my digital camera sucks. Tell me what you think!!!

I don't know my Hotshot to have this problem but I did have to do some surgical repairs to his Force Chip spoilers. The wing blades could open but then they couldn't close. I noticed that the notch for the spring mechanism was facing up (think in a 'u' shape; thicker area down, short thinner space facing up). For the spring mechanism to catch on the wings it needed to be reversed (facing down). So pretty much here's what I did:

1.pop off the car's canopy/rear section: its easy, no screws involved just pop it off. the base peg is mounted on the rear the whole hting should come up.

2.There are five screws to remove: two on top, three on the bottom, remove them and be careful about the pieces.

3.There are four springs to look out for; two for the wings and two for the chip slot mechanism.  be sure to not lose them or this is worthless.

4. carefully remove the wing blades without losing the springs, Leave the springs in place (They're fit for the area, notice the microscopic hole where the spring holds on the plastic base).

5. reverse the wings: left for right. vise versa. Be sure that the springs fit the groove in the underside of the wings (small groove mark is where the straight end of the spring catches).

Now remember this was just mine but if it happened to anyone else be careful. Unlike Smookimus my camera's fine but its too late to do a break down photo set.

Cool idea for a mod.

I can see it adding more articulation overall but personally I'm not to crazy about taking razor blade to semiexpensive toys. Also the notch you describe if removed would leave an unsightly gap in the fenders in alt mode. The only time I ever mod or remove a part is if it's external and doesn't effect either alt or robot mode.

FWIW I don't mind the lack of shoulder articulation. IMO he's way better aticulated than either Armada or Energon Hotshot. :thumb

Finally just finished, and thanks to your instructions it works much better than before. Mine probably took a whole hell of a lot longer because dummy me opened up the canopy piece upside down so I had no idea where anything originally went.

It took a couple of tries but now Hotshot is better than ever. Also the springs are a real Starscream to keep in place so what I did was applied small doses of funtack on the placements. Made things a whole lot easier in the end, and didn't gum up the mechanism either. :thumb

I can see your point, but I really don't mind the gap in alt mode, in turn for a more articulate bot mode. I guess im just a sucker for great articulation (microman rocks!)

However, i forgot to add something. In order to make a really clean cut, use a sharp blade, and cut slowly, cuting each piece in 10+ tries. That way, it doesn't have any unsightly white rough marks, when the plastic is stressed.

My only thing is with some of these paint aps we're (not) getting. Vector Prime's wings and the chromeless forcechips. I just need to get the right mix of paints.

Dragon is my hero!

When my Hot Shot arrives I will have to try this technique, HW, thanks!

Screw the shoulders, its his hips that need work.  His "skirt" doesn't leave enough clearance for the leg articulation at all.  I simply sawed 3-4 millimetres off the sides of his hip panels.  It doesn't effect his appearance much, but improves his articulation greatly.  At this point, one of my favourite TFs ever.  So stylish.
