Help with tearing Unicron apart needed!

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody  :wave ,

Just wish to give my Armada Unicron a new look and to start with I would want to take off the spheres on both legs. So anybody has any idea how can I achieve that? Thanks in advance!

(Btw this is only my first trial, so I'm a totally idiot  :redface on this hence I wish that someone can guide me on this. )

Regards

Khaiern

Welcome to TFans!

Yeah,  Your going to need: a small phillips screwdriver, a pair of pliers, and a sodering iron.

First, take out the 6 screws on the inside of each lower leg.  Best thing is to do one leg at a time and keep track of which screws came from where.  It make reassembling much easier!  After you take out all the screws, the lower leg will come apart in 3 big pieces (2 halves of the lower legs and the trap door in the front).  Also, be careful of 2 little white pieces that will probabbly fall out, they are the clickers in each leg.  Keep track of where they sit on the upper part of each half for when you put everything back together.

Set aside the trap door piece and the half that doesn't have the sphere.  On the inside of the lower leg with the sphere you'll see the head of the metal pin that holds the sphere on.  Place the hot iron on the head of the pin for about 30-45 seconds.  Then pull off the sphere part until it comes off the pin.  It may not come off on the first try.  So heat the pin up again and keep trying until it pops off.  Then use the pliers to take the pin out of the lower leg so it doesn't mess up any of the plastic.  Theres a spring under the head of the pin and it may pop right off, so be careful you don't have anything that will easily melt on your work area.  Also, the pin will be very hot, so it's a good idea to where a pair of leather gloves when doing all this.

After the pins out, reassemble the leg in the reverse order yo took it apart.  Then do the next leg.

Hope this helps!

P.S.  An alernative to heating the pin up, is just to pull on the sphere piece hard enough until it pops off the pin.  I don't recomend this because something usually breaks.  The heated pin technique has the best results but some people might not be comfortable doing it.
