Finding Landmine

Recommended Posts

It was a saturday afternoon like any other. I had just gotten off work and was kicking around the internet, when I saw on the Unicron.com listings that MP Prime had been sighted in Wisconsin. Without a moment of hesitation, I dashed for my car and set off to pay the "magic Walmart" a visit.

That's right, "magic Walmart". I'm sure every TF hunter has a special store that always seems to have new toys before all the others do. Mine is a small, decaying Walmart located in a small town about 10 minutes from my house. I had previously found Unicron there almost a month before I saw him anywhere else. And today I was feeling lucky.

So I got there and practically ran in with frothing anticipation only to find...no Prime. Oh well. But this isn't the magic Walmart for nothing, no sir. To my surprise I found in front of me Signal Flare and Cruellock. This is the first time I have seen Wave 2 toys, too bad neither of them impressed me enough to warrant a purchase. I scanned the top shelf in one last pathetic attempt to find Prime, and I noticed something odd behind a Scorponok. It was the corner of a box the size of Scorponok's but it said...Powerlinx?! I quickly grabbed it, and what do you know? LANDMINE! The last one, too. Sorry to anyone if you were hiding it. This is almost as good as finding Prime, and it's easier on the wallet to boot.

I'm planning on writing a formal review of the toy later, but for now let's just say he is Scorponok's equal in detail and play value and that one of his electronic noises was a surprise to me and is quite awesome. Plus I'm shaking him and it isn't going off, so he beats Scorpy in that department. I'll do a detailed review tonight.

This is why I collect these toys. For the thrill of the hunt.

I found him at a local walmart this weekend as well. Hiding behind an Energon Prime Box. No other Wave 2 figures were anywhere on the shelf and they had yet to make an apperance. So either I was to late to find them or something got miss packaged and sent early. Either way, I couldnt wait to get home. Almost all weekend I had Landmine sitting on my coffee table. I love the vehicle mode, robot mode, and especially the brute mode. Its awsome.

Landmine is probably my fav Energon fig so far. It is just so awesome all around ... definitly the next evolution in "main line" styling and engineering. This is what I had in mind when the armada rumors hit of bots attaching to bigger bots.

I saw one hidden in my walmart (top shelf as well) but passed. He just doesnt strike my interest, though I will probably get one when another guy comes out that can link to him!

At this point ... it doesn't look like there is going to be any "linking up" with Landmine, as he links up with himself (trailer parts) to form the brute mode. Unless there are other figures with the brute mode feature that can interchange armor.

Nice find! I personally love the hunt , almost more than having the actual transformer. I quite enjoyed the long hunt for smokescreen a month ago.

The yet unnamed helicopter seems to have the same kind of extra parts as Landmine. Maybe they can switch armor, or maybe all the armor can combine.

See, that's what I was thinking. His box has a big red powerlinx symbol on the front, and if you look at the side there are 4 different powerlinx symbols. He also has the symbol on his arm. Now, Hot Shot and Inferno both have silver powerlinx symbols on them, so I assume the color of the symbol indicates compatibility, meaning future toys will link up with him. And it does kind of seem silly to call a toy that combines with itself "powerlinx".

On a random tangent, I wish his tow line was a bit longer, it would be a lot more fun if it were a foot or two long. He could trip 'cons with it or something.

It is true that the color of the gear symbol indicates what bots it can link with. On the side of Landmine's box it says something to the effect of being able to link with any bot with the red symbol. This also indicates prime can link with anything with the black symbol. Hmmm. Does this indicate the possibility of future bots linking with prime? Certainly does. Will this happen? I don't know, but there has been speculation about one Omega Supreme......

So that leaves the yellow symbol, which is for Mega sized toys (Ironhide, Jetfire), right?

I did not know the Optimus one, that intrigues me quite a bit. I might actually buy Optimus if they release some cooler limbs for him.

Unicron aside, only 2 months in and Energon is a way better line that Armada ever was.
