G1 Alternator conversions including Wheeljack

Recommended Posts

I've often thought about kitbashing my Alt Smokescreen into a G1 color scheme, but I always hold off precisely because he would look too much like his G1 self.

One of the things I like about the Alternators is the more subdued color schemes. The original G1 figures had a lot of bright colors on them b/c they were like, toys and everything. But the Alts strike me more as what robots would really look like if they transformed into (or "from") cars. Yeah there's color on the sheet metal, and some detailing on the bot parts, but nothing extravagant.

I guess "tasteful" is the word I would use to describe it.

Don't worry MG, I wasn't talking about you; just the general opinion concerning alternators.  I don't dislike the new paint schemes, but I just like a variety of them. "Let's purposely NOT do G1" is becoming as dated as "G1." is all I'm saying.

(hides 2x4's and nails. :D)  j/k)

I think you have it mixed up.  The 'dislike' is not "Let's purposely NOT do G1 is becoming as dated as G1", but more of HasTak spends so much on making BT/Alts 'as realistic as they can' and customizers turned around and made the toy 'unrealistic'.  Kinda ruins the point of BT/ALTs.

George brought up a good point. Let's face it -- no cars have paint schemes like that these days, even rally cars have less artsy or avant garde decos to them. They're usually covered up with sponsors' logos or they have very simplistic racing stripes (see Wheeljack's Shelby Mustang look). I like the realism of the cars and the TFs.

Those are friggin' awesome man. I love what you've done with your Alts. Too bad this forum is full of haters. I know you are merely showing off you customizing skills and I for one like what you've done. I think you have some great talent. I wouldn't be surprised if some one commissioned you to do one for them. Sure Alts aren't G1 but I for one think of them as an updated version of their G1 counter parts, especially after reading the Binaltech story. I can understand why some people say that cars like yours aren't exactly robots in disguese but who cares, they look cool.

who cares, they look cool.

Exactly....if somebody DOESN'T like how somebody else customized they can go ahead and make their own.

What does that Blue/Silverstreak look like in car mode?

Well, I respect the work that was done, but I just don't like the G1 color schemes on the modern cars.  They still look good, I just don't like them.

Leave the past in the past.

yeah, but the thing is, once someone buys an alternator, it's THEIRS. they can paint the damn thing pink and call it ghey kup if they want.

i think there's two schools of thought prevalent here; one is "let's make them as real as possible, as they are nowadays,' and "let's make them as they SHOULD have looked, as real as possible back in 1984."  Am I off on this one?

I get your point completely.  But the moment you post them up on the web, the toy is open for debate.  If you are looking for nothing but praise, you should never ever post them on the web.

I don't think the point of debate should focus on whether or not it SHOULD be done...but rather how creatively and artisticlly it was done and what can be done to improve it (or improve future bashes).

For instance, my brother Realmwalker repaints energon toys. I REALLY don't like Energon toys, but I don't dis him for doing it or tell him to stop. Rather I look at how well he is doing and try to advise him on diffrent techniques I've discovered that he could use to get what he wants. And he does the same for me. (appreciate it bro :thumb)

I guess what I'm saying is...everybody should look past what their "Kitbashing Preference" is and try and help EVERYONE try and make the best bashes they can.

Peace?!

Bah!  Both are extremely subjective. :D :D

It's not like I hate every single G1 alt bashes.  I loved the soundwaves (the Dodge truck version and the mustangs) :)
