What did the G1's use for currency?? if any??

Recommended Posts

Aside from Soundwave and Blaster, where would the money go?  It's not like they're exactly wearing pants.

They should use minicons as currency- just stick them on to your hardpoints and you're good to go.

I don't think they had a currency.  It's kinda pointless for them.

Even at peace time?

Yes.  I do not believe the Transformers used a currency, ever.

Even if Energon was the baises of there Econamy, Energon Cubes are too big to carry on your person, unless they stored there cash in Subspace, they would most likly have a curancy to reprecent the Energon.

I agree with that.  Transformers need energy, and they can get that without

buying it.  Everything else they need they manufacture themselves.

I think a good example would be water in the Dune book, or salt in ancient times.

Both items were hard to obtain, and both needed for some measure of one's life (water for hydration and crops, salt for meat preservation and other uses).

I think Energon falls into that same catagory: They need to survive, thus it becomes a powerful batering tool.  It has been shown that not all TFs are the same, so if someone needed a special part or maintenence, they have to pay with something.

But even if as a race they manufacture whatever they need, how do the bots acquire the goods they might need individually?

Say Hotrod as a young bot takes care of some alien bird as a pet. What would he do to get food for it? Would the government supply it to him? Probably not. He'd have to go out and buy some from an importer...and how would he do that? Not through a barter system.

Bartering is an archaic system. It stems from the fact the all people have skills to put to use toward creating a good or supplying a service that will be beneficial to others. If it's not, you'd starve (run out of energon) and die.

In a bartering system there is no gaurantee that whatever you possess to trade with will be needed by the person with whom you intend to trade.

In any advanced civilaztion moentary units are divised and usually controlled by the government.

I tend to think that the TF's were a highly civilized race (despite the infighting). To survive in the universe they would either...

A) Have a monetary system, so they could import fuel and export manufactured goods.

B) Constantly build an empire, subjugate all they come across and take any fuel sources by force.

:schin

hm..

maybe they don't have their own form of moneys for interacting with each other.  Instead they just use whatever coinage the race they're trading with uses, exchanging as they go?

your talking about g1, why not have the micromasters instead?

They all have big guns, kinda makes currency a moot point ;)

Gold is immensly soft and is useless for reinforcing anything, it is however an excellent heat reflector ;)

yes, and gold-reinforced armor would have excellent heat resistence.

Armour couldnt be reinforced with gold as the inherant strength of the original armour would be weakened by the softness of gold.  I guess you could say armour `weakened` by gold would have excellent heat resistance, otherwise gold plating would meerly be a heat shield (As in the Mclaren F1) This point is illustrated by the gold `reinforced` armour and weaponry of the Aztecs and Incas which was useless against the steel of the conquistadors of spain (but it was much more attractive ;))

And yes I do realise that I am overnalysing this innocuous statement by far ;) sorry Hornet ;)

Energon.

Yeah, there is some bartering, but G1 bots mined materials (Webworld episode).

The Decepticons just took what they wanted such as mining death crystals

(Chaos).  In the episode the Dweller in the Depths, Perceptor made a power

core and in his words "would make them self sufficient."  They also did recycle

metal from old ships, which was used to create the Aerialbots.
