Gimmicks and stuff

Recommended Posts

I really enjoyed the powerlink gimmick with energon and it helps me save valuable shelf space (everyone on display is powerlinked)

Since we're speaking of RID    I have to say that the car brothers are great but X brawn in particular is one of my favorite TFs ever

him and Rapid Run of the train combiners are some of the best Molds ever in my opinion

RiD was full of gimmicks.  Prime+Magnus=combination gimmick, Rail Racer and Landfill=gestalt gimmick, Megatron=multichanger gimmick.

The only real gimmickless original molds from the line were the car brothers.  I don't think gimmicks are a bad thing at all.  If they add playability and fun to a toy so much the better.

Read the original post, Tant.  :)  there were no gimmicks that were across the board.

For instance - in Armada, every Autobot and Decepticon could augment himself with Minicons using the posts that littered his body.

In Cybertron, same with the force chips.

RiD didn't have something like that.  Some bots combined, some bots multi-changed, some could be transformed one-handed and fit in your zippo pocket.  some lit up.  plenty of individual gimmicks.  Nothing across the board.

not saying that's good or bad, just making conversation.

Oh, I understand the difference, but I'm just saying that RiD wasn't this pristine gimmick free line where transformation and good design are the only draws.  :)

I kind of like the minicon and force chip gimmicks. At least they usually did not affect the overall quality of the figure, and that's all that matters. I know that many figs were bricks, but it wasn't the minicon's fault. The powerlinking features of energon figs like hotshot considerably reduced posability for stability (the lack of a knee joint).
