names for custom tfs

Recommended Posts

hello all.  i've been putzing around in the shadows here for about 3 months now, about as long as i've been working on my first kitbash/custom scratchbuild.  i must say to all of those that contributed to the IG2KB (been through it several times, and eagerly await updates!), thank you, it has been and will be an invaluable resource.

so, on to my question.  in my quest to build my own alt tf, i have come up with my bot, even so much as the background story and tech specs.  however, i cant seem to come up with a fitting name.  anyone out there have any suggestions?  not for the name per say, but some type of method for naming their customs?  anyone else ever have this problem?

well the names usually has some relavence to the characters story or background info(i.e. sunstreaker was a yellow car that could flr by in a streaky blurr)

To be honest I ussually just do Alternator kitbashes of G1 characters. So I just use their original names. But Mattimus Prime`s suggestion sounds like a good way to come up with original names. Another is if they have any speacial abilities ie. Soundwave and Blaster were radios and used sound as one of their weapons.

Stay away from the fan fiction-y and Rob Liefield-y names (Example off the top of my head that I'm sure exists somewhere: "TwiliteFyre-X").

i have a similar problem with naming my custom Starships (i'm a Trekkie) Classes.

But for transformers, i agree with naming it how it works (ala Sunstreaker)

Usually, A transformer's name reflects something unique to that transformer. It could refer to appearance, function stature, or something else along those lines. Prime's nomenclature reflected his rank and standing, while Wheeljack's denoted his mad scientist skills.

The best advice I can give you is to determine your transformer's function, rank, and personality, then come up with several names denoting each. You might be surprised by what you come up with!

Decepticharge is just a slack ass name.  A la, say, Battle Unicorn.

well, i just made a yellow g1 tracks and called him firefly... so just make up a name... but make sure it's cool.

i guess firefly came from gijoe... so you could start using their names.
